Job Overview: The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position is located in the Office of Human Resources and Training Unit (HRTU) within the Management Advisory and Compliance Service (MACS) in Nairobi, Kenya. This is an unpaid, full-time internship where interns are expected to work five days a week under the supervision of a staff member in the HRTU. The intern will assist in various aspects of human resource management and administrative tasks, contributing to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the office. The role is designed to provide practical experience in human resources and administrative functions within a prominent international organization, allowing interns to gain insights into the workings of the United Nations and its commitment to sustainable urban development.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks related to human resource management and administrative support. Key responsibilities include:
Following up on actions related to the administration of human resource activities such as recruitment, relocation, performance management, job classification, and separation, ensuring adherence to regulations and procedures.
Performing a wide range of office support and administrative functions to facilitate the smooth operation of the office.
Responding to or drafting responses to routine correspondence and other communications, utilizing standard word processing software to produce complex documents and reports.
Generating standard statistical reports and work orders using various databases.
Proofreading documents and editing texts for accuracy, grammar, punctuation, and adherence to established formatting standards.
Assisting in the maintenance of the shared drive and ensuring accurate filing of all recruitment-related documents.
Monitoring and updating the recruitment matrix and following up on impending actions.
Performing other duties as assigned by the supervising staff member.
Required Qualifications: Applicants must meet one of the following criteria at the time of application: a. Be enrolled in a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher). b. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent). c. Have graduated with a Bachelor's degree, Master's, PhD, or equivalent. Additionally, candidates should be computer literate in standard software applications, particularly the Microsoft Office Suite. A demonstrated interest in the work of the United Nations and a personal commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter are essential. Candidates should also possess the ability to interact successfully with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds and beliefs, demonstrating tolerance and understanding of differing opinions.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this internship includes being a student in the final year of a first university degree program (Bachelor's or equivalent), or being enrolled in a Master's or Ph.D. program, or having completed a Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. program. A degree in Business Administration or Human Resources is preferred.
