Job Overview: The Communications Assistant will play a crucial role in supporting the media and communication efforts of IOM Ireland. This position involves assisting in the preparation, implementation, and evaluation of publicity and visibility initiatives related to migration issues and IOM activities. The successful candidate will be responsible for creating engaging content for various platforms, including websites, social media, newsletters, and media outlets. The role requires a proactive approach to researching and producing news stories, client stories, and multimedia content, ensuring that IOM's messaging is effectively communicated to the public and stakeholders. The Communications Assistant will also manage social media accounts, implement posting strategies, and analyze engagement metrics to enhance outreach and visibility.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist in the preparation and implementation of IOM Ireland's communication strategies, focusing on migration issues and IOM activities.
Research and produce news stories, client stories, and multimedia content, including photos and videos, from scriptwriting to publishing.
Manage and update IOM's social media accounts, curating content to increase audience engagement and reach.
Run social media campaigns, evaluate their effectiveness, and report on performance metrics.
Maintain and update the office's official website, ensuring content is current and relevant.
Develop and manage a media contact database to facilitate media coverage of IOM activities.
Monitor and analyze media coverage and audience engagement, preparing reports as necessary.
Create graphic designs for official outputs, including online banners, presentations, and promotional materials.
Ensure compliance with IOM Brand Guidelines in all communication efforts. 1
Perform other related duties as assigned by the Chief of Mission or direct supervisor.
Required Qualifications:
University degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Information Management, Political or Social Sciences, or a related field from an accredited institution, with at least three years of relevant professional experience; OR a completed High School degree with at least five years of relevant working experience.
Proven experience in planning, writing, editing, and producing newsletters, articles, and social media content.
Familiarity with current technologies and trends in social media and design tools.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher.
Experience in migration management and working with migrants is an advantage.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess a university degree in a relevant field such as Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Information Management, Political or Social Sciences from an accredited academic institution. Alternatively, candidates with a completed High School degree and significant relevant experience may also be considered. Accredited universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database.
Experience: The ideal candidate should have at least three years of relevant professional experience in communications, marketing, or public relations roles. Candidates with a completed High School degree should have a minimum of five years of relevant working experience. Experience in producing content for various media platforms, including social media, newsletters, and articles, is essential. Familiarity with current technologies and trends in social media and design tools is also required, along with proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite software.
Languages: Fluency in English, both oral and written, is required for this position. Knowledge of IOM's official languages, which include French and Spanish, is considered an asset and may be evaluated during the selection process through written and/or oral assessments.
Additional Notes: This position is subject to local recruitment, and only candidates holding a valid residence and work permit for Ireland will be considered. The appointment will be contingent upon medical fitness certification, verification of residency, and necessary government authorizations. The selection process may be used to fill similar positions in various duty stations, and recommended candidates will remain eligible for appointment in similar roles for a period of 24 months.
