Job Overview: The Senior Community Engagement Associate will play a crucial role in implementing project activities related to sports and physical activities for international protection applicants residing in the Citywest accommodation centre. This position requires a proactive approach to engage residents in sports, exercise, and recreational activities that promote both physical and mental well-being. The incumbent will assist in educating residents about the benefits of physical activity and healthy living practices through various sessions and informal discussions. The role also involves conducting needs assessments for sports and physical activities, identifying available resources, and collaborating with local partners to facilitate inclusive participation. The Senior Community Engagement Associate will work closely with community focal points, volunteers, and implementing partners to coordinate sports and recreational events, ensuring that activities are accessible and tailored to the interests and abilities of all participants. Additionally, the incumbent will support administrative tasks related to the project and participate in monitoring and evaluation activities to track participation levels and gather feedback.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist in the implementation of sports and physical activities for international protection applicants in the Citywest accommodation centre.
Support engagement with residents to encourage participation in sports and recreational activities.
Share information on the benefits of physical activity and healthy living during educational sessions and informal discussions.
Conduct regular needs assessments for sports and physical activities requested by residents.
Identify and map available sports facilities, equipment, and community resources.
Collaborate with local partners to optimize the use of resources and facilitate inclusive participation.
Organize group and individual physical activities based on residents’ interests and needs.
Work with community focal points, volunteers, and partners to coordinate sports and recreational events.
Prepare logistical resources for activities and support their usage and storage. 1
Collect feedback from participants and stakeholders to monitor participation levels and address challenges. 1
Maintain activity records and summarize information for internal and external reports. 1
Support the administrative requirements of the project and maintain day-to-day operations in line with project SOPs. 1
Participate in routine Monitoring & Evaluation activities as instructed. 1
Maintain confidentiality of project-related matters and safeguard records. 1
Travel between sites as required and prepare short activity notes. 1
Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Community Development, Political or Social Sciences, or a related field from an accredited institution with three years of relevant professional experience; or a high school diploma with five years of relevant professional experience.
Experience supporting community activities, particularly with diverse populations such as migrants, refugees, and asylum seekers.
Proven experience in organizing sports and physical activities.
Familiarity with working alongside State agencies and non-governmental organizations in Ireland is preferred.
Experience in a multicultural environment is advantageous.
Previous experience with international organizations, NGOs, EU Agencies, or Irish law enforcement or government departments is an asset.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Physical Education, Community Development, Political or Social Sciences from an accredited academic institution. Alternatively, candidates with a high school diploma must have five years of relevant professional experience. Accredited institutions are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of three years of relevant professional experience for candidates with a Bachelor’s degree, or five years for those with a high school diploma. Experience should include supporting community activities, particularly with diverse populations such as migrants, refugees, and asylum seekers. Candidates should also have experience in organizing sports and physical activities, and familiarity with working in a multicultural environment is preferred. Previous experience with international organizations, NGOs, EU Agencies, or Irish law enforcement or government departments is considered an asset.
Languages: Fluency in English is required, both oral and written. A working knowledge of any UN languages is advantageous, as IOM’s official languages include English, French, and Spanish. Proficiency in the required languages will be evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.
Additional Notes: This position is subject to local recruitment, and only candidates holding a valid residence and work permit for Ireland will be considered. The appointment is contingent upon funding confirmation and medical fitness certification. The selection process may also be used to fill similar positions in various duty stations, and recommended candidates will remain eligible for appointment in similar roles for a period of 24 months.
