Job Description
Job Posting Organization:
The International Labour Organization (ILO) is a specialized agency of the United Nations that aims to promote social justice and fair labor standards globally. Established in 1919, the ILO has a mission to ensure that labor rights are respected and that decent work is available for all. The organization operates in over 180 countries and has a diverse workforce of approximately 3,300 employees. The ILO is committed to promoting rights at work, encouraging decent employment opportunities, enhancing social protection, and strengthening dialogue on work-related issues.

Job Overview:
The internship program at the ILO provides an opportunity for students and recent graduates to gain practical experience in the field of international labor standards. Interns will be involved in the work of the ILO's Norms Department, which focuses on the implementation of labor conventions and the promotion of fundamental rights at work. Interns will have the chance to deepen their understanding of international labor issues by participating in various projects and activities related to labor rights, social justice, and employment standards. The internship is designed to enhance the intern's knowledge and skills while contributing to the ILO's mission of promoting decent work for all.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Interns will be expected to engage in a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: assisting in the review of observations submitted by employers' and workers' organizations regarding the application of labor standards; preparing draft comments for submission to the Committee of Experts; contributing to the examination of national labor legislation in light of international labor conventions; conducting comparative analyses based on labor standards; and dedicating approximately 10% of their time to administrative tasks. Interns will work closely with experienced professionals and will have the opportunity to learn about the ILO's work in areas such as forced labor, child labor, indigenous peoples, equality, migrant workers, and social protection.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must meet several qualifications to be eligible for the internship. They should not have any close relatives working at the ILO, must not have previously completed an internship at the ILO, and must be enrolled in or have recently completed a Master's or Doctoral program within the past year. A practical knowledge of English, both oral and written, is mandatory. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate adaptability to an international, multicultural, and multilingual environment, possess good communication skills, and be able to work effectively in a team setting.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this internship includes a degree in law or a related field. Candidates must be enrolled in a Master's program or have completed such a program within the last year. This educational requirement ensures that interns have the necessary theoretical knowledge to engage with the ILO's work effectively.

Experience:
While prior work experience is not mandatory, candidates should have a strong academic background and a keen interest in international labor standards and social justice issues. The internship is designed for students or recent graduates who are looking to gain practical experience in the field and apply their academic knowledge in a real-world setting.

Languages:
A practical knowledge of English is required for this position, as it is the working language of the ILO. Additionally, proficiency in other official ILO languages such as French and Spanish, or any other working language, would be considered an asset. This multilingual capability is important for engaging with diverse stakeholders and understanding various labor issues globally.

Additional Notes:
The internship contract will last between 3 to 6 months, starting on either the 1st or the 15th of the month. Interns will receive a monthly allowance of 2450 CHF, unless they are receiving funding from another institution. In cases of partial funding, the ILO will cover the difference to ensure that the intern receives the full allowance. Additionally, interns will receive a contribution towards medical insurance costs during their internship. Candidates from underrepresented or unrepresented member states may be eligible for financial assistance for travel expenses to Geneva. It is important to note that the ILO does not cover any costs related to accidents or illnesses that may occur during the internship, and candidates are responsible for ensuring they have adequate health and accident insurance coverage.
