The ILO is committed to promoting decent work for all, which includes creating job opportunities, enhancing social protection, and strengthening dialogue on work-related issues.
Job Overview: The internship program at the ILO offers a unique opportunity for individuals to gain insight into international labor issues by directly participating in the work of the organization. Interns will engage in various tasks that relate to the application of ILO principles, programs, and strategies. The internship is designed to provide practical experience that is closely aligned with the intern's field of study, particularly in the area of statistics related to labor rights, migration, and competencies. Interns will be involved in statistical work that supports the ILO's mission of promoting social justice and decent work for all, contributing to the development of international statistical standards and practices.
Duties and Responsibilities: Interns will be expected to perform a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: summarizing quantitative and qualitative surveys of national statistical practices regarding occupational safety and health (OSH); reviewing selected household survey questionnaires and editing STATA processing syntax to generate relevant OSH variables for inclusion in survey datasets; conducting literature reviews and supporting activities to address specific data gaps; preparing contributions that include bibliographic summaries on OSH data collection and dissemination practices, as well as tables and graphs for reports and communication materials. Interns should anticipate dedicating 10% to 20% of their time to administrative tasks.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must meet several qualifications to be considered for the internship. They should not have any close relatives working at the ILO, must not have previously interned at the ILO, and should be enrolled in or have completed a master's or doctoral program within the last year. A practical knowledge of English, both oral and written, is mandatory. Additionally, experience working with quantitative data and descriptive statistical analysis using survey data is required. Familiarity with specialized statistical software, preferably R or STATA, is also necessary.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this internship includes a focus on statistics, quantitative sciences, economics, or related fields that involve applied statistics. Candidates must be enrolled in at least a master's program or have completed such a program within the past year to be eligible for the internship.
Experience: The level of experience needed for this position includes practical experience in working with quantitative data and conducting descriptive statistical analysis. Candidates should have a solid understanding of statistical methodologies and be able to apply these skills in a practical setting, particularly in relation to labor statistics and data collection processes.

Additional Notes: The internship contract duration is between 3 to 6 months, starting on either the 1st or the 15th of the month. Interns will receive a monthly stipend of 2450 CHF, unless they are receiving funding from another institution, in which case the ILO will cover the difference to ensure the stipend remains at 2450 CHF. Interns are responsible for their travel expenses to Geneva, although qualified candidates from underrepresented countries may be eligible for financial assistance for travel costs. It is important to note that the ILO does not cover any expenses incurred during the internship related to accidents or illnesses, and interns are required to have personal health and accident insurance valid throughout their internship period.
