Job Description
Job Posting Organization:
The Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC) is a partnership convened by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) that includes governments, intergovernmental organizations, private sector representatives, and members of civil society. The CCAC is dedicated to addressing integrated climate and clean air solutions, focusing on reducing emissions of short-lived climate pollutants (SLCPs) such as methane, black carbon, HFCs, and tropospheric ozone. The CCAC is unique as it is the only international initiative specifically targeting these pollutants to mitigate near-term warming. The UNEP hosts the Secretariat for the CCAC at its Industry & Economy Division in Paris, France. The organization is committed to fostering collaboration among various stakeholders to achieve significant environmental impacts and promote sustainable development. As of October 2023, the CCAC team is also providing secretariat services to the Global Methane Pledge, which aims to reduce methane emissions globally. More information about the CCAC can be found at www.ccacoalition.org and details about the Global Methane Pledge at www.globalmethanepledge.org.

Job Overview:
The intern position within the CCAC offers a unique opportunity to engage with a diverse range of stakeholders and contribute to critical initiatives aimed at combating climate change and improving air quality. Interns will work closely with the Programme Officer and will have the chance to participate in various workstreams that may include governance meetings, program management of CCAC initiatives, resource mobilization efforts, and the development of targeted briefings and communication products. The internship is designed to provide hands-on experience in international environmental policy and program implementation, allowing interns to gain valuable insights into the workings of a global partnership focused on climate action. Interns will agree on specific goals and an individual work plan during their initial weeks, ensuring that their contributions align with the team's priorities and objectives.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Interns will be involved in a variety of tasks that support the CCAC's mission and operations. Responsibilities may include assisting with the organization of CCAC meetings and workshops, collecting information on CCAC activities through internet research and phone interviews, drafting or reviewing CCAC briefings and papers, attending meetings and teleconferences, and summarizing discussions and outcomes. Additionally, interns may be assigned other ad hoc duties as determined by the team, providing them with a comprehensive understanding of the CCAC's functions and the broader context of climate and air quality initiatives.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a university degree in international relations, development, or a scientific field related to climate change, air pollution, or other environmental issues. Knowledge or studies related to development and international relations are considered advantageous. The selection process will prioritize candidates who can demonstrate leadership skills, initiative, proactivity, and strong organizational abilities. Furthermore, applicants should exhibit excellent writing skills in English and familiarity with advanced Excel and database management tools, including SharePoint, which would be beneficial for the role.

Educational Background:
A university degree is required, preferably in fields such as international relations, environmental science, climate change, or air pollution. Candidates with educational backgrounds that include studies in development or international relations will be viewed favorably, as these areas are relevant to the work of the CCAC.

Experience:
While specific prior experience may not be mandatory, candidates should demonstrate relevant skills and attributes that indicate their capability to contribute effectively to the CCAC's initiatives. Experience in research, program management, or environmental policy would be beneficial, but the emphasis will be on the candidate's potential to learn and grow within the role.

Languages:
Fluency in English is required for this position, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Proficiency in French is also advantageous, given that it is the other working language of the UN. Candidates should be able to communicate effectively in both languages, particularly in written form, to fulfill the responsibilities of the internship.

Additional Notes:
Interns are not financially compensated by the United Nations, and all costs related to travel, visas, accommodation, and living expenses are the responsibility of the interns or their sponsoring institutions. Those who are not citizens or permanent residents of France may need to secure the appropriate visa and work authorization prior to starting the internship. It is important for successful candidates to discuss their specific visa requirements before accepting the internship offer. Additionally, it is emphasized that the United Nations does not charge any fees at any stage of the recruitment process, ensuring a transparent and fair selection process.
