Job Overview: The position of Online Volunteer at the UNICEF Refugee Response Office in Poland involves conducting a comprehensive desk review of Barnahus and Barnahus-type model services in selected countries. The Barnahus model is characterized by multidisciplinary and interagency interventions that are organized under one roof in a child-friendly environment, with a focus on the best interests of the child. The volunteer will be responsible for gathering and analyzing data from various resources, including country-level and international reports, mappings, and analyses. The primary goal of this assignment is to draft a report that documents good practices in short project briefs for each selected country. The briefs will cover essential aspects such as the legal and budgetary framework, institutional setup, leading institutions and agencies involved, target groups, types of services provided, professionals involved, capacity building for professionals, and the evaluation of services delivered. The volunteer will also pay special attention to access to services for marginalized groups, including children with disabilities, children from minorities, and migrant and refugee children. The assignment will be conducted in close cooperation with the Child Protection Team at UNICEF RRO in Poland and under the supervision of a Child Protection Specialist. Participation in online meetings may be required during the assignment, with a maximum of three meetings anticipated.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Online Volunteer will be tasked with the following duties and responsibilities:
Conduct a thorough desk review of Barnahus and Barnahus-type model services in at least three to a maximum of four selected countries.
Gather and analyze data from various resources, including country-level and international reports, mappings, and analyses related to Barnahus model services.
Draft a report documenting good practices in short project briefs, with each brief being a maximum of 3-5 pages per country.
Ensure that the briefs include detailed information on the legal and budgetary framework of Barnahus model services, the institutional setup and location of services, leading institutions and agencies involved, target groups, types of services provided, professionals involved, capacity building for professionals, supervision and monitoring of services, and evaluation of services delivered.
Pay special attention to access to services for marginalized groups, including children with disabilities, children from minorities, and migrant and refugee children.
Collaborate closely with the Child Protection Team at UNICEF RRO in Poland and adhere to the guidance provided by the Child Protection Specialist.
Participate in online meetings as required to discuss progress and findings during the assignment.
Required Qualifications: The ideal candidate for the Online Volunteer position should possess the following qualifications:
Strong research and analytical skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information into clear and concise reports.
Familiarity with child protection issues, particularly in relation to violence against children and the Barnahus model.
Excellent written communication skills in English, with the ability to produce high-quality written reports.
Proficiency in using online research tools and databases to gather relevant information.
Ability to work independently and manage time effectively to meet deadlines.
Strong interpersonal skills to facilitate collaboration with team members and stakeholders.
A commitment to the principles and values of UNICEF, particularly in relation to children's rights and protection.
Educational Background: Candidates should have a background in social sciences, child protection, public policy, or a related field. A degree in these areas is preferred, but relevant experience may also be considered in lieu of formal education. Knowledge of the Barnahus model and its application in child protection contexts will be advantageous.
Experience: The position requires candidates to have prior experience in research, particularly in the field of child protection or social services. Experience working with NGOs, governmental organizations, or international agencies focused on children's rights and welfare is highly desirable. Familiarity with the Barnahus model or similar multidisciplinary approaches to child protection will be beneficial.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, as all reports and communications will be conducted in this language. Knowledge of additional languages, particularly Polish or other European languages, would be considered an asset but is not required.
Additional Notes: This is a volunteer position, and as such, it may not offer financial compensation. The assignment is expected to be conducted remotely, allowing for flexibility in working hours. The duration of the assignment will be determined based on the scope of the desk review and the time required to complete the project briefs. The volunteer will be expected to commit to the project for a specified period, which will be discussed during the selection process.
