The internship is located in the Office of the Secretariat of the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for Road Safety and at the United Nations Road Safety Fund (UNRSF), which operates under the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE). The organization has numerous employees and operates in multiple countries worldwide, focusing on various global issues including road safety, sustainable development, and humanitarian efforts.

Job Overview:
The Programme Management Intern will work under the supervision of the Head of the UN Road Safety Fund and the Secretariat of the UN SDG's Special Envoy for Road Safety. The intern is expected to contribute significantly to the work of the Secretariat by undertaking research to identify potential partners and inform activities related to the Special Envoy. The role involves drafting articles, briefing notes, and other outreach communications aimed at raising awareness about the global road safety crisis. Additionally, the intern will research initiatives that connect road safety with other Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and support events and activities planned for the Special Envoy. The intern will also participate in meetings related to the UN Road Safety Fund and perform other duties as requested, making this a multifaceted role that requires a proactive approach and strong communication skills.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern's duties and responsibilities include:
  • Conducting research to support the identification of potential partners for the Special Envoy's initiatives.
  • Drafting articles, briefing notes, and outreach communications to enhance visibility regarding global road safety issues.
  • Researching initiatives that demonstrate the connection between road safety and other SDGs.
  • Assisting in the planning and execution of events and activities organized by the Special Envoy.
  • Preparing for and participating in meetings related to the UN Road Safety Fund, including drafting statements and other necessary documentation.
  • Performing additional tasks as assigned by the supervisor, which may vary based on the needs of the Secretariat.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, it is essential that candidates have a field of study closely related to the internship they are applying for. This could include areas such as public policy, international relations, environmental studies, or any other relevant discipline. Additionally, applicants must demonstrate proficiency in standard software applications, particularly MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams. Skills in drafting news articles and social media posts are desirable, as well as the ability to design surveys and polls.

Educational Background:
Candidates must be students in their final year of a bachelor's degree, master's, or Ph.D. program, or they must have completed one of these degrees. This educational requirement ensures that interns have a foundational understanding of the relevant fields and can contribute effectively to the work of the Secretariat. Proof of enrollment or completion of the required educational program must be provided during the application process.

Experience:
While professional work experience is not a prerequisite for this internship, candidates should have relevant academic experience or coursework that aligns with the responsibilities of the position.
