Job Overview: The Security CCTV Systems Assistant position is crucial for ensuring the effective installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of network cabling and CCTV systems within the United Nations' operations in the Central African Republic. Duties and Responsibilities: The Security CCTV Systems Assistant will perform a variety of technical, operational, and administrative tasks under the direct supervision of the Security Officer. Key responsibilities include:
Technical Tasks: - Install, maintain, and troubleshoot network cabling, including copper and fiber optic infrastructures. - Conduct site surveys to determine optimal locations for cabling and network equipment. - Install, configure, and maintain security systems, including cameras, speakers, monitors, access controls, and related hardware. - Perform rigging tasks for equipment installation on towers, poles, walls, and structures, ensuring safety and compliance with regulations. - Test and certify network cables and CCTV systems to ensure performance standards are met. - Maintain accurate records of installations, services, and inventories. - Pull cables between poles and underground as necessary to ensure connectivity. - Install cable racks, J-hooks, inner ducts, and other structures to support cabling systems. - Terminate all types of fibers using various methods; possess knowledge of fiber connector types and manufacturers; have experience in testing single-mode and multi-mode fibers; and troubleshoot fiber optics using OTDR testing. - Mount telecommunications equipment following best practices, industry standards, and manufacturer requirements. - Support the installation of structures, including racks, ladders, J-hooks, and switches. - Maintain all documentation related to cabling infrastructure. - Troubleshoot audiovisual cabling issues, install IP devices, and terminate outlets and distribution frames.
Operational Tasks: - Coordinate with the IT team to ensure smooth integration of network and CCTV components. - Monitor the performance of network and physical security systems and make necessary adjustments. - Provide technical support and troubleshooting for network and system issues. - Implement security protocols to protect the network and infrastructure. - Perform operational tasks in the CCTV monitoring room as a CCTV operator upon request, adhering to specific job instructions. - Carry out any other tasks as requested by supervisors.
Administrative Tasks: - Ensure compliance with UN policies and procedures regarding network and physical security infrastructure. - Assist in the development and implementation of disaster recovery exercises. - Perform any other tasks as requested by supervisors.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a secondary school diploma or equivalent. A minimum technical diploma or equivalent in information technology, telecommunications, or a related field is desirable. A minimum of one year of progressive experience in network cabling, CCTV installation, and infrastructure is required. Proficiency in computer applications, specifically Microsoft applications and internet usage, is required. Experience in rigging and handling heavy equipment, as well as working in conflict or post-conflict environments, is desirable. Relevant certifications (e.g., CCNA, CompTIA Network+, CCTV installation certification) are also desirable.
Educational Background: The position requires at least a secondary school diploma or equivalent. A technical diploma in information technology, telecommunications, or a related field is preferred, indicating a foundational understanding of the technical aspects of the role.
Experience: The ideal candidate should have a minimum of one year of progressive experience in relevant fields, particularly in network cabling and CCTV installation. Experience in environments that are conflict-affected or post-conflict is considered an asset, as it demonstrates the ability to work under challenging conditions and adapt to various operational demands.
Languages: The working languages of the United Nations Secretariat are English and French. For this position, proficiency in French and Sango is required, while knowledge of English is considered desirable.
