Job Overview:
The Programme Analyst, Population and Development, is responsible for leading UNFPA's initiatives in population data and dynamics, providing critical insights into how demographic changes influence social, economic, and environmental development. This role involves engaging in policy dialogue and development planning, utilizing rights-based and gender-responsive demographic analysis to inform strategies and programs. The analyst will work closely with various teams within UNFPA to ensure that population dynamics are integrated into national and regional development policies, thereby supporting the achievement of the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) Programme of Action and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The position requires a proactive approach to promoting the generation and use of population data for informed decision-making, as well as collaboration with partners to enhance the effectiveness of development interventions.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Programme Analyst will be responsible for several key areas: A. Policy Dialogue and Technical Support - Engaging with stakeholders to promote the integration of population dynamics into policy frameworks and development plans. B. Technical Leadership on Population and Development - Providing guidance and expertise on demographic analysis and its implications for development. C. Programme Management and Coordination - Overseeing the implementation of programs related to population and development, ensuring alignment with UNFPA's strategic objectives. D. Knowledge Management - Facilitating the sharing of best practices and lessons learned within the organization and with external partners. Additionally, the analyst will support the UNFPA Country Office in integrating population dynamics into various program areas, including sexual and reproductive health and gender equality.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master's degree in Population Studies, Demography, Economic Development, Political Science, Public Policy, International Relations, or a related field. They should have a strong understanding of population dynamics and its relevance to development planning and policy-making. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a commitment to UNFPA's mission and values, including integrity, cultural diversity, and a willingness to embrace change. Strong analytical skills and the ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders are essential.

Educational Background:
A Master's degree in a relevant field such as Population Studies, Demography, Economic Development, Political Science, Public Policy, or International Relations is required for this position. This educational background provides the necessary theoretical and practical knowledge to analyze population trends and their implications for development.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least two years of progressively responsible professional experience in the field of population dynamics or a related discipline. This experience should include policy advocacy, engagement in development planning, and program management. A proven track record of technical leadership and the ability to produce analysis that informs policy outcomes is essential. Familiarity with statistical software (e.g., SPSS, Stata, R) and geospatial software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS) is considered an asset, as is experience with Microsoft Office and cloud applications.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of other official UN languages, particularly French, is desirable and may enhance a candidate's competitiveness for the role.
