The UNFPA GCC office in Muscat, Oman, was established in 2006 and is part of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). The organization focuses on providing technical assistance in key areas such as Population and Development, Reproductive Health and Rights, Youth Development, and Gender Equality. UNFPA's mission is to expand the possibilities for women and young people to lead healthy and productive lives. Since its inception in 1969, UNFPA has significantly reduced the number and rate of women dying from complications related to pregnancy and childbirth. The organization collaborates with various strategic partners across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, including Oman, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, and Qatar. These partnerships involve government entities, civil society actors, academic institutions, and youth-led groups, utilizing diverse cooperation modules such as Trust Fund agreements, Memorandum of Understandings, and limited-term project agreements. The UNFPA GCC Sub-regional Office plays a crucial role in providing technical expertise and coordinating efforts among GCC governments on issues related to population and development, youth, reproductive health, gender equality, and statistics.

Job Overview:
The Data Visualization Online Volunteer position is designed to enhance the presentation and communication of UNFPA GCC's mandate-related information and program achievements in the GCC region. The volunteer will be tasked with developing user-friendly data visualizations for the 2024 Annual Report. This role requires close collaboration with the Programme team and the Graphic Designer to ensure that the final communication materials are both appealing and informative. The volunteer will be responsible for transforming raw data and statistics into visually engaging graphic elements, such as infographics and charts, that effectively convey key data and achievements. The goal is to create a document that is accessible and user-friendly for a diverse audience, including decision-makers, youth, and women, in both English and Arabic.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Online Volunteer will undertake several key tasks, including:
  • Developing visually appealing graphic elements from raw data and statistics, which may include infographics, charts, and other forms of data visualizations.
  • Contributing to the data visualization for the 2024 office annual report, ensuring that the information is displayed in a manner that is accessible and user-friendly in both English and Arabic.
  • Engaging proactively with the programme team to gather relevant GCC data that aligns with UNFPA's mandate.
  • Tailoring user-friendly data visualizations for diverse audiences, including decision-makers, youth, and women. The final deliverable will be a comprehensive and user-friendly data visualization for the 2024 Annual Report.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates should possess strong skills in data visualization and graphic design, with a solid understanding of how to present complex data in an accessible manner. Familiarity with data visualization tools and software is essential. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate creativity and an ability to work collaboratively with a team. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, are also required, particularly in the context of engaging with diverse audiences. A proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to meet deadlines are important attributes for this role.

Educational Background:
A background in graphic design, data visualization, statistics, or a related field is preferred. Candidates should have relevant coursework or training that demonstrates their ability to create effective visual representations of data. Experience with design software such as Adobe Illustrator, Tableau, or similar tools will be advantageous.

Experience:
While prior experience in data visualization or graphic design is preferred, it is not strictly required.
