Job Overview: The GIS Specialist position is integral to the Leave No Location Behind project, which aims to enhance the integration of social, economic, and environmental data for monitoring sustainable development goals in the Arab region. The role involves collating and analyzing geospatial and geo-statistical data, ensuring quality assurance and control throughout the process. The GIS Specialist will work closely with the Chief of the Data Science and Decision-Support Division and the project coordinator, contributing to the development of a geo-statistical, geo-demographic, and geo-SDG data clearinghouse. The position requires a strong focus on user-centric analytics and the ability to provide insights that support policy-making and capacity integration.
Duties and Responsibilities: The GIS Specialist will be responsible for a wide range of tasks including: collating geospatial and geo-statistical databases; locating and extracting regional, national, and subnational data; developing efficient methods for data collection, analysis, and dissemination; documenting the quality and accuracy of data; assisting in the development of socioeconomic and environmental indicators; producing visual representations such as dashboards, charts, maps, and infographics; conducting cross-referencing and validation of open-source data; utilizing GIS software like ArcGIS Pro and QGIS for advanced analysis; supporting the automation of GIS workflows; managing large geospatial datasets; conducting overlay analysis and network analysis; processing LiDAR point clouds for terrain modeling; applying remote sensing techniques for satellite imagery analysis; implementing web mapping technologies; managing spatial databases; and ensuring adherence to data privacy and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security protocols.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Geography, GIS, Statistics, Economics, Data Sciences, Engineering, or a related field. A minimum of 4 years of professional experience in GIS software and tools is required, along with experience in spatial data processing, advanced data processing, geospatial analysis techniques, elevation and 3D modeling, remote sensing and image analysis, programming and automation, and data visualization and mapping. All candidates must submit a copy of their educational degree, as incomplete applications will not be reviewed.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Geography, GIS, Statistics, Economics, Data Sciences, or Engineering.
