Since March 2020, SI has been active in France to address issues of water, hygiene, and sanitation precariousness in five French territories, partnering with water and sanitation operators and their foundations to assist populations living in degraded sites such as slums or squats, who have limited access to basic services. SI's strategy involves supporting local actors in finding concrete solutions to improve sanitary conditions in these areas, including the installation of drinking water supply systems, sanitation infrastructure, and the development of pilot projects tailored to the context of each intervention zone.
Job Overview: The Assistant Logistique et Finance will work under the managerial authority of the logistics and finance manager and collaborate with the supply manager and technical teams in water, hygiene, and sanitation (EHA) and community mobilization. The main objectives of this internship include discovering the functioning of a mission, understanding the relationship between headquarters, coordination, and field operations, learning about field activities, and understanding the various professions involved in humanitarian work. The intern will also gain practical experience in project management, financial and logistical tracking tools, and the overall functioning of a humanitarian mission, including its constraints and the relationships between different humanitarian actors.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Assistant Logistique et Finance will have a variety of responsibilities, including assisting the logistics and finance manager in market knowledge, tracking purchases, and updating related tools while adhering to donor rules. The intern will help in sourcing donations for hygiene kits, ensure the transport and storage of goods before technical teams' interventions, assist in the implementation of distributions, and participate in field activities. Responsibilities also include archiving and centralizing logistics documents, updating accounting journals, managing billing follow-ups, and maintaining stock tracking files. The intern will assist in purchasing processes, including market studies, supplier searches, and compliance with SI's purchasing procedures. They will also support the organization of freight, inventory management, and ensure communication with program teams regarding stock arrivals. In terms of accounting, the intern will compile individual expense reports, verify and archive supporting documents, and contribute to monthly and annual accounting closures. Additionally, the intern will participate in weekly and monthly meetings and provide support to various zones as needed.
Required Qualifications: Candidates should have a background in humanitarian logistics, accounting and/or financial management, project management, development, international relations, or political science. Technical skills required include excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office (especially Word and Excel), strong analytical and writing abilities, and good synthesis and prioritization skills. A valid driver's license (Category B) is mandatory. Candidates should also possess transversal skills such as proactivity, critical thinking, organizational skills, and the ability to work under pressure. An interest in the context of water access in France and a commitment to the principles and work of Solidarités International are essential.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a degree or training in humanitarian logistics, accounting, financial management, project management, development studies, international relations, or political science. This educational foundation will provide the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively contribute to the logistics and finance functions within the organization.
Experience: The position is intended for interns, so prior professional experience is not strictly required. However, any relevant experience in logistics, finance, or humanitarian work will be considered an asset. The ideal candidate should demonstrate a willingness to learn and adapt to the dynamic environment of humanitarian operations.
Languages: Fluency in French is mandatory, given the location and the nature of the work. Proficiency in English or other languages may be considered an advantage, especially in terms of communication with international teams and stakeholders.
Additional Notes: This is a six-month internship based in Mayotte, with an obligatory internship agreement. The compensation for this position is €5.60 per hour, calculated pro-rata based on actual hours worked each month (approximately 154 hours per month, equating to 22 days of 7 hours each).
