Job Overview:
The Deputy Regional Director for the Asia and Pacific Office plays a crucial role in supporting the organization's mission by overseeing regional programs and initiatives. This position requires a strategic thinker who can effectively manage resources, lead teams, and foster partnerships with various stakeholders, including governments, NGOs, and the private sector. The Deputy Regional Director will be responsible for ensuring that the organization's objectives are met in the region, providing guidance and support to country offices, and representing the organization at high-level meetings and conferences. The role demands a deep understanding of regional dynamics, development challenges, and the ability to navigate complex political environments. Additionally, the Deputy Regional Director will be expected to contribute to policy development and advocacy efforts, ensuring that the organization's voice is heard in critical discussions affecting the region.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide strategic leadership and direction for the Asia and Pacific Office, ensuring alignment with the organization's overall mission and goals.
  • Oversee the planning, implementation, and evaluation of regional programs and initiatives, ensuring they are responsive to the needs of member states.
  • Foster partnerships with governments, civil society, and the private sector to enhance collaboration and resource mobilization.
  • Represent the organization at regional and international meetings, advocating for the organization's priorities and positions.
  • Lead and mentor a diverse team of professionals, promoting a culture of excellence, accountability, and inclusivity.
  • Monitor and analyze regional trends and developments, providing insights and recommendations to senior management.
  • Ensure effective communication and coordination between the Asia and Pacific Office and country offices, facilitating knowledge sharing and best practices.
  • Contribute to the development of policies and strategies that address regional challenges and opportunities.
  • Manage budgets and resources effectively, ensuring transparency and accountability in financial management. 1
  • Engage in capacity-building efforts to strengthen the capabilities of local partners and stakeholders.

Required Qualifications:
  • Proven leadership experience in a senior management role within an international organization or similar context.
  • Strong understanding of development issues, particularly in the Asia and Pacific region.
  • Excellent strategic planning and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain partnerships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Exceptional communication and negotiation skills, with fluency in English.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a results-oriented approach.
  • Commitment to the organization's values and principles, including respect for diversity and inclusion.

Educational Background:
  • A master's degree in international relations, development studies, public administration, or a related field is required.
  • A Ph.D. or equivalent advanced degree is preferred and may be an advantage in the selection process.
  • Additional training or certifications in leadership, management, or specific development areas would be beneficial.

Experience:
  • A minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible experience in international development, with at least 5 years in a senior management position.
  • Experience working in the Asia and Pacific region is highly desirable.
  • Proven track record of successfully managing large-scale programs and initiatives, with a focus on results and impact.
  • Experience in policy development and advocacy at the regional or international level is an asset.

Languages:
  • Fluency in English is mandatory.
  • Knowledge of additional languages relevant to the Asia and Pacific region is considered an asset and may enhance the candidate's profile.
