Job Overview:
The Environment Directorate (ENV) of the OECD is seeking a dynamic and visionary Director to lead its initiatives and provide strategic direction. This role is pivotal within the Senior Management team, requiring the Director to ensure that the OECD remains at the forefront of global economic policy regarding environmental issues. The Director will be responsible for advancing the priorities set by the Secretary-General and member countries, delivering analysis and policy advice that addresses the multifaceted nature of environmental challenges and their economic, sectoral, financial, and social implications. The position demands close collaboration with senior management to coordinate the Programme of Work and Budget, as well as fostering horizontal work across the organization. The Director will also be tasked with ensuring that the workforce within ENV possesses the necessary skills and knowledge to meet current and future demands, while promoting a high-performing workplace that values collaboration and staff well-being.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Director will lead the Directorate’s team to deliver the work programme aligned with the priorities established by Members and the Secretary-General. Responsibilities include supporting strategic outcomes in environmental policy, ensuring the Directorate remains at the forefront of international research, and reinforcing synergies within ENV's cooperation programs. The Director will represent the Directorate at various meetings, establish networks with international organizations and stakeholders, and oversee policy missions to OECD Member Countries. Additionally, the Director will manage the Directorate’s human capital, ensuring optimal use of resources and promoting a cohesive, diverse team. The role also involves adhering to the OECD's ethical principles and fostering a supportive environment for staff development.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree in economics, environmental economics, law, public policy, or a related field. A minimum of 10 years of experience in the environmental and climate sector is required, including experience in policy formulation and international cooperation. Candidates should have a strong understanding of current environmental policy challenges and geopolitical implications, along with a proven track record of senior-level relations and stakeholder engagement. Knowledge of environmental and climate policy issues in emerging economies is advantageous, as is the ability to interact confidently with various audiences, including the media. Excellent communication skills and a commitment to fostering diversity and inclusion in the workplace are essential.

Educational Background:
An advanced university degree in a relevant discipline such as economics, environmental economics, law, or public policy is required for this position. This educational background should provide a solid foundation for understanding complex environmental issues and the policy frameworks that govern them.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have over 10 years of relevant experience in the environmental and climate sector, with a focus on environmental economics or related policy areas. This experience should encompass roles in national administrations, international organizations, academia, the private sector, or non-profit organizations, demonstrating a comprehensive understanding of policy formulation and implementation.

Languages:
Fluency in one of the two OECD official languages (English and French) is mandatory, with a willingness to learn the other language. Knowledge of additional languages would be considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's ability to engage with diverse stakeholders.

Additional Notes:
This position is a three-year fixed-term appointment with the possibility of renewal. The mandatory retirement age is 6
  • The OECD offers a competitive monthly base salary starting from 15,806 EUR, plus allowances based on eligibility, which are exempt from French income tax. The selection process includes screening applications, written tests, video-recorded interviews, and panel interviews, with a leadership assessment for candidates in the final selection stage.
