Job Overview: The Environment Directorate (ENV) is seeking a dynamic and visionary Director to lead its initiatives and provide strategic direction. This role is pivotal within the Senior Management team of the OECD, where the Director will ensure that the organization remains at the forefront of global economic policy regarding environmental issues. The Director will be responsible for advancing the priorities set by the Secretary-General and member countries, delivering comprehensive analysis and policy advice that addresses the multifaceted nature of environmental challenges and their economic, sectoral, financial, and social implications. The position requires collaboration with senior management to coordinate the Programme of Work and Budget, ensuring that the diverse skills within ENV's workforce are effectively utilized to meet current and future needs while fostering a high-performing workplace that emphasizes collaboration and staff well-being.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Director will lead the Directorate’s team in executing the work programme aligned with the priorities established by Members and the Secretary-General. Responsibilities include supporting strategic outcomes in environmental policy, ensuring the Directorate remains a leader in international environmental research, and reinforcing synergies within ENV's cooperation programs. The Director will represent the Directorate at various meetings, establishing relationships with stakeholders and contributing to policy missions to OECD Member Countries and non-member economies. Management responsibilities include overseeing human capital, ensuring optimal resource use, and promoting a cohesive, diverse team environment. The Director will also adhere to the OECD's ethical standards and promote a supportive workplace culture.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree in economics, environmental economics, law, public policy, or a related field. They should have over 10 years of experience in the environmental and climate sector, including policy formulation and implementation, and international cooperation. A strong understanding of current environmental policy challenges and geopolitical implications is essential. Proven experience in senior-level relations and a well-established professional network in relevant international communities are required. Candidates should demonstrate excellent communication skills, a collaborative spirit, and a commitment to diversity and inclusion in the workplace.
Educational Background: An advanced university degree in a relevant discipline such as economics, environmental economics, law, or public policy is mandatory for this position. This educational background should provide a solid foundation for understanding complex environmental issues and policy frameworks.
Experience: Candidates should have more than 10 years of relevant experience in the environmental and climate sector, with a focus on environmental economics or related policy areas. This experience should encompass roles in national administrations, international organizations, academia, the private sector, or non-profit organizations, demonstrating a comprehensive understanding of policy development and implementation.
Languages: Fluency in one of the two OECD official languages (English and French) is required, along with a willingness to learn the other language. Knowledge of additional languages would be considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's ability to engage with diverse stakeholders.
Additional Notes: The position is a three-year fixed-term appointment with the possibility of renewal. The OECD has a mandatory retirement age of 6
The monthly base salary starts from 15,806 EUR, plus allowances based on eligibility, and is exempt from French income tax.
