Job Overview:
The Media & Communications & Event Organization Specialist plays a crucial role in enhancing the visibility and public engagement of IOM Hungary. This position involves developing and implementing communication strategies that effectively promote IOM's mission and activities. The incumbent will be responsible for managing both internal and external communications, ensuring that the organization's messaging is consistent and impactful. The role requires a proactive approach to media relations, public engagement, and event organization, with a focus on donor visibility and advocacy campaigns. The Specialist will work closely with various teams to create compelling content and facilitate effective communication within the organization and with external stakeholders.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement communication strategies to enhance IOM Hungary’s public outreach and visibility.
  • Create and manage multimedia content, including press releases, reports, success stories, newsletters, and digital materials.
  • Maintain and update IOM Hungary’s website and social media channels, ensuring consistent branding and messaging.
  • Act as a focal point for media inquiries, drafting responses and arranging interviews for IOM representatives.
  • Build and maintain relationships with journalists, media agencies, and communication officers from partner organizations.
  • Prepare press briefings, talking points, and background materials for public engagements and events.
  • Organize and facilitate media visits, press conferences, and storytelling initiatives to highlight IOM’s work.
  • Plan and coordinate high-profile events, conferences, and workshops, ensuring smooth execution.
  • Ensure donor visibility requirements are met in all communication materials and public engagements. 1
  • Work closely with programme teams to develop visibility materials, including banners, promotional items, and donor-branded content. 1
  • Develop creative campaigns and public outreach initiatives to promote IOM’s mission and achievements. 1
  • Facilitate internal communications by ensuring mission-wide dissemination of important updates, policies, and reports. 1
  • Support the organization of internal staff meetings, training sessions, and knowledge-sharing activities. 1
  • Manage internal newsletters and updates, fostering a cohesive and informed team environment. 1
  • Develop and implement advocacy and awareness-raising campaigns on migration-related issues. 1
  • Coordinate with programme teams to create campaign messages targeting migrants, host communities, and policymakers. 1
  • Support crisis communication efforts during emergency response situations. 1
  • Undertake duty travel as required to support communication efforts and event organization. 1
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
  • University degree in Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, International Relations, or a related field from an accredited academic institution with four years of relevant professional experience; or a high school diploma with six years of relevant professional experience.
  • Experience in media relations, public communications, and event organization.
  • Proven ability to develop content for various media platforms, including social media and digital communications.
  • Experience working in an international organization, NGO, or public sector is an advantage.
  • Strong knowledge of branding, donor visibility requirements, and campaign development.
  • Familiarity with design and multimedia tools (Canva, Adobe Suite, video editing software, etc.) is an asset.
  • Knowledge of migration, humanitarian issues, or development communication is desirable.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess a university degree in a relevant field such as Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, or International Relations from an accredited institution. Alternatively, candidates with a high school diploma must have a minimum of six years of relevant professional experience. Accredited universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of four years of relevant professional experience in media relations, public communications, and event organization. Candidates should demonstrate a proven ability to develop content for various media platforms and have experience working in an international organization, NGO, or public sector. Familiarity with branding and donor visibility requirements is essential, and knowledge of migration and humanitarian issues is highly desirable.

Languages:
Fluency in English and Hungarian is required, both oral and written. Knowledge of Ukrainian or Russian is considered an advantage. Proficiency in IOM’s official languages, which include English, French, and Spanish, will be evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.

Additional Notes:
This position is subject to local recruitment, and only candidates holding a valid residence and work permit for Hungary will be eligible for consideration. The appointment will be contingent upon certification of medical fitness, verification of residency, visa, and government authorizations where applicable.
