Job Overview:
The Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Sub-Sector Coordinator will play a crucial role in addressing the needs of women and girls affected by GBV in Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh. This position is vital in the context of the ongoing humanitarian crisis resulting from the influx of Rohingya refugees fleeing violence in Myanmar. The coordinator will be responsible for leading the GBV Sub-Sector coordination, which includes over 30 member organizations, and ensuring effective prevention and response strategies are implemented. The role requires strong technical leadership, strategic planning, and capacity development to enhance the response to GBV in emergencies. The coordinator will work closely with various stakeholders, including UN agencies, NGOs, and government bodies, to promote a coordinated and comprehensive approach to GBV prevention and response, ensuring that the needs of survivors are met and that community-based programming is strengthened.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The GBV Sub-Sector Coordinator will be responsible for establishing and reinforcing inter-agency coordination mechanisms, facilitating communication between national and sub-national GBV coordination groups, and representing the GBV Working Group in various meetings. The coordinator will lead the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for GBV response, conduct assessments of the GBV situation, and advocate for the integration of GBV-related actions across multiple sectors. Additionally, the coordinator will support capacity development initiatives for GBV service providers, ensure adherence to ethical standards in GBV programming, and engage in resource mobilization efforts to support GBV prevention and response activities. The role also involves monitoring and analyzing GBV trends, documenting best practices, and providing regular updates on the GBV situation in Cox's Bazar.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree in fields such as gender studies, humanitarian affairs, human rights, law, social work, public health, development studies, international relations, or other related social sciences. A minimum of 7 years of experience working on gender-based violence, with at least 3 years in a humanitarian context, is required. Experience in leading inter-agency coordination mechanisms and a strong understanding of how GBV manifests in humanitarian settings are essential. Candidates should demonstrate knowledge of the international humanitarian architecture, including the Cluster System and the roles of key humanitarian actors. Strong interpersonal skills, emotional intelligence, and the ability to self-manage are also necessary for this position.

Educational Background:
The ideal candidate should have an advanced university degree in relevant fields such as gender studies, humanitarian affairs, human rights, law, social work, public health, development studies, international relations, or other related social science disciplines. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of gender-based violence and the necessary interventions in humanitarian settings.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 7 years of professional experience in the field of gender-based violence, with at least 3 years of that experience in a humanitarian context. Candidates should have a proven track record of leading inter-agency coordination efforts and working with a diverse range of stakeholders, including UN agencies, NGOs, and government bodies. Experience in developing and implementing GBV prevention and response strategies in emergency settings is highly desirable.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, as effective communication is essential for coordination and advocacy efforts. Knowledge of other official UN languages is considered an asset and may enhance the candidate's ability to engage with a broader range of stakeholders.
