Established in 1969, UNFPA operates in over 150 countries, working to ensure universal access to reproductive health, promote reproductive rights, and reduce maternal mortality. The organization is committed to delivering a world where every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe, and every young person's potential is fulfilled. UNFPA's strategic plan for 2022-2025 emphasizes three transformative results: ending preventable maternal deaths, fulfilling unmet needs for family planning, and eliminating gender-based violence and harmful practices. UNFPA Nigeria is currently implementing its 9th Country Programme (2023-2027), which focuses on strengthening data systems, enhancing health system capacities, and addressing discriminatory gender norms.

This role involves ensuring the effective implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of SRH programs, aligning them with UNFPA's strategic plan and Nigeria's national development priorities. The coordinator will lead a team of professionals and collaborate with government counterparts, NGOs, and other stakeholders to improve SRH outcomes. Reporting directly to the UNFPA Deputy Representative, the coordinator will be responsible for developing and implementing the SRH strategy, ensuring integration with other UNFPA program areas, and supporting the integration of SRH into national health coverage.

  • Advocacy and Partnerships: Building strategic partnerships with stakeholders and advocating for policies that promote SRH and rights.
  • Capacity Building: Strengthening the capacity of national partners and UNFPA staff through training and knowledge sharing.
  • Monitoring and Evaluation: Developing frameworks to assess the impact of SRH programs and ensuring data-driven decision-making.

This educational background is essential for understanding the complexities of sexual and reproductive health and the associated policies and programs.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least 7 years of progressively responsible professional experience in sexual and reproductive health, including program design, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation. Experience in managing complex SRH programs in a developing country context is crucial, along with demonstrated leadership and management experience in health system strengthening at both national and sub-national levels.
