Job Overview: The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position is designed to support the Performance Management and Compliance (PMC) section under the Service Support Unit (SSU). The intern will assist in various management matters including risk management, strategy formulation, and annual business planning. The role involves conducting analyses, data collection, and generating reports to support the strategic planning processes. The intern will also be responsible for maintaining documentation, compiling reports on performance indicators, and assisting in internal control evaluations. This position offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in project management and compliance within a multi-country office environment.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Planning and Monitoring Support: Assist in strategic planning and annual business planning processes by conducting analyses, collecting data, generating reports, and ensuring proper documentation. Support the development and monitoring of SSU and PMC Annual Work Plans by preparing relevant tools and maintaining documentation. Compile and submit periodic and ad-hoc reports on SSU’s performance against key performance indicators (KPIs).
Internal Control Evaluation Assistance: Conduct background research and data collection for annual risk assessments and compliance review plans. Document results of internal control evaluations and prepare periodic reports. Work as a team member on PMC ad hoc projects as requested.
Administration Support and Knowledge Sharing: Maintain and update SSU dashboards and shared portals. Provide secretarial support for meetings and assist in coordinating knowledge sharing sessions, including scheduling meetings and preparing materials.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must be enrolled in or have recently graduated from a university program related to Business Administration, Commerce, Management, Accounting, Audit, or Finance. A bachelor’s level qualification in these fields is desirable. Prior certifications in accounting, auditing, or project management (such as PRINCE2, CIA, ACCA, CPA) are highly desirable. Strong computer literacy, particularly in Google Suite applications and MS Excel/Google Sheets, is mandatory. Experience in project management, compliance, risk management, or finance is desirable but not required.
Educational Background: Candidates must be enrolled in a university program such as Bachelor’s, Master's, or Ph.D. (or equivalent) or have graduated within three years prior to the application date. Areas of study should relate to Business Administration, Commerce, Management, Accounting, Audit, or Finance. Completion of a bachelor’s level qualification in these fields is desirable, along with any relevant certifications in project management or accounting.
Experience: While professional work experience is not required, any experience working or volunteering in project or program management, compliance, risk management, or finance is considered desirable. Familiarity with working in an international or multicultural environment is also beneficial.
Languages: Fluency in written and oral English is required. Knowledge of another official UNOPS language is considered an asset.
Additional Notes: The internship contract is for a duration of 12 months and is not designed to lead to a staff position with UNOPS. Interns may receive a monthly stipend provided they do not receive funds from other institutions. UNOPS may also provide a one-time travel lump sum.
