Job Overview:
The Maternal Health Intern will work under the direct supervision of the SRHR Data Specialist and the overall guidance of the SRHR/Maternal Health Advisor at the UNFPA Asia-Pacific Regional Office. This internship is designed to support the planning, development, and implementation of key activities aligned with the UNFPA Strategic Plan 2022-2025, particularly focusing on the goal of achieving zero preventable maternal deaths by 203
  • The intern will engage in a structured work plan that includes agreed tasks and deliverables, as well as learning opportunities that will enhance their skills and capacity in areas related to UNFPA's mandate. The role will involve high-quality support to the SRHR Data Specialist and SRHR Technical Advisor in various aspects of maternal health program implementation, with a strong emphasis on knowledge management, strategic communications, and advocacy related to midwifery and maternal health.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Intern will be responsible for delivering high-quality support to the SRHR Data Specialist and SRHR Technical Advisor in all areas of maternal health program implementation. Key activities include leading knowledge management processes related to midwifery education and training courses, supporting the development of communication materials such as stories and social media posts, and assisting in the finalization and dissemination of a regional study on the midwifery workforce analysis. The intern will also help organize and administer online training courses for midwifery educators, and support the strengthening of maternal perinatal deaths surveillance and response systems and emergency obstetric and newborn care networks across Asia-Pacific countries. Additional tasks may be assigned based on project requirements and learning opportunities.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must meet one of the following requirements: be enrolled in a postgraduate degree program, be in the final year of a first university degree program, have recently graduated with a university degree, or be enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship program. The selected intern should have an educational background in public health, medicine, midwifery, health sciences, social sciences, development studies, or related fields. Additionally, candidates should possess strong analytical and writing skills, demonstrate initiative and sound judgment, and have the ability to work harmoniously with diverse teams.

Educational Background:
Applicants must be enrolled in a postgraduate degree program, in the final year of a bachelor's degree, or have recently graduated with a relevant university degree. The educational background should ideally be in fields such as public health, medicine, midwifery, health sciences, social sciences, or development studies, which are pertinent to the responsibilities of the internship.

Experience:
Some experience working with development agencies, including volunteer work, is preferred. The intern should demonstrate strong analytical and writing skills, as well as the ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment. Previous experience in maternal health or related fields would be advantageous but is not mandatory.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of additional languages is considered an asset, enhancing the intern's ability to communicate and collaborate effectively within the diverse context of UNFPA's operations.

Additional Notes:
The internship is set for a duration of 6 months. Interns do not receive a salary or remuneration from UNFPA; however, they may receive a small stipend to help cover basic daily expenses if not financially supported by an institution. Interns are responsible for their living expenses, accommodation, and travel arrangements. Medical insurance is required for the duration of the internship, and proof of insurance must be submitted before the internship begins.
