Job Overview:
The Maternal Health Intern will work under the direct supervision of the SRHR Data Specialist and the guidance of the SRHR/Maternal Health Advisor at the UNFPA Asia-Pacific Regional Office. The intern will support the planning, development, and implementation of activities aligned with the UNFPA Strategic Plan 2022-2025, particularly focusing on the goal of achieving zero preventable maternal deaths by 203
  • The internship will involve a structured work plan with specific tasks and deliverables, as well as opportunities for learning and skill enhancement in areas related to UNFPA's mandate. The intern will engage in various activities, including knowledge management, strategic communications, and advocacy related to maternal health and midwifery, contributing to the overall mission of UNFPA.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be responsible for providing high-quality support to the SRHR Data Specialist and SRHR Technical Advisor in the implementation of maternal health programs. Key responsibilities include leading knowledge management processes related to midwifery education, supporting the development of communication materials, assisting in the finalization and dissemination of regional studies on midwifery workforce analysis, organizing online training courses for midwifery educators, and strengthening maternal health data systems. The intern will also collaborate with various stakeholders to enhance the functionality of maternal perinatal deaths surveillance and response systems and emergency obstetric and newborn care networks across Asia-Pacific countries. Additional tasks may be assigned based on project requirements and learning opportunities.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must meet one of the following criteria: be enrolled in a postgraduate degree program, be in the final year of a first university degree program, have recently graduated with a relevant degree, or be enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship program. The ideal candidate will have a background in public health, medicine, midwifery, health sciences, social sciences, development studies, or related fields. Additionally, candidates should possess strong analytical and writing skills, demonstrate initiative and sound judgment, and have the ability to work harmoniously with diverse teams.

Educational Background:
Applicants must be enrolled in or have recently graduated from a relevant academic program. This includes postgraduate degree programs, final year undergraduate programs, or professional traineeship programs. Relevant fields of study include public health, medicine, midwifery, health sciences, social sciences, and development studies.

Experience:
Some experience working with development agencies, including volunteer work, is preferred. Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to the values and mission of UNFPA and possess the ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory. Knowledge of additional languages is considered an asset and may enhance the candidate's profile.

Additional Notes:
The internship is for a duration of 6 months. Interns do not receive a salary but may receive a small stipend to help cover basic daily expenses. Interns are responsible for their own living expenses, accommodation, and travel arrangements. Medical insurance is required for the duration of the internship, and proof of insurance must be submitted before the internship begins.
