Job Overview:
The Reviser will play a crucial role in ensuring the quality and accuracy of translations produced by the Spanish Translation Section. This position requires a high level of proficiency in Spanish, as well as the ability to translate and revise texts across a wide range of subjects relevant to the United Nations. The incumbent will be expected to meet or exceed workload standards while utilizing computer-assisted translation (CAT) tools effectively. The role also involves developing new terminology, conducting linguistic research, and contributing to multilingual terminology databases. The Reviser will provide guidance to translators, participate in setting terminology standards, and ensure that deadlines for document production are met. Additionally, the position includes data analysis and visualization to support decision-making processes within the organization.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Reviser will be responsible for revising translations on various subjects, ensuring they meet the required standards of accuracy and consistency. The incumbent will translate texts on a self-revising basis, particularly those requiring specialized knowledge. Responsibilities include developing new terminology, conducting linguistic research, and contributing to terminology databases. The Reviser will counsel and assist translators, supervise small groups of translators, and participate in setting terminology standards. The role also involves analyzing data to identify trends and providing insights through visual aids. The Reviser must maintain a high output speed while considering the complexity of texts and must meet established deadlines for document production. Other related duties may be assigned as required.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must have a first-level degree from a recognized university or institution. They must have passed the relevant combined United Nations Language Competitive Examination for Spanish Translators or a similar examination held before 201
  • A minimum of five years of experience in translation or a related language field is required, along with proficiency in relevant language technologies. Experience in translation at the United Nations or similar international organizations is desirable, particularly in legal, economic, or technical subjects. Proven experience in self-revision is also preferred.

Educational Background:
A first-level degree from a university or institution of equivalent status is mandatory for this position. This educational background should ideally be complemented by specialized training or coursework in translation, linguistics, or a related field to enhance the candidate's qualifications for the role.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of five years of professional experience in translation or a related language field. At least three years of this experience should be within the United Nations Common System or similar international organizations. Candidates should demonstrate a strong background in translating a variety of subjects, particularly those relevant to the United Nations, and should have experience in self-revision of translations.

Languages:
A perfect command of Spanish is required, which must be the candidate's main language. Excellent knowledge of English is also necessary, as assessed in the relevant Competitive Examination. Additionally, knowledge of one other official language of the United Nations is required, which may include French, Arabic, Chinese, or Russian.
