Job Posting Organization:

Job Overview:
The internship is located in the Environment Division of UNECE, which plays a crucial role in facilitating multilateral cooperation on environmental issues. The intern will contribute to the preparation of Environmental Performance Reviews (EPRs) for various countries, including Moldova, Uzbekistan, and Mongolia. The intern will also support the Transport, Health and Environment Pan-European Programme (THE PEP) by drafting documents and communication materials, as well as assisting in the organization of meetings. Additionally, the intern will engage in activities related to the Environmental Monitoring and Assessment Programme, which includes preparing for working group sessions and assisting with capacity-development initiatives. This position offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in international environmental policy and contribute to significant projects that align with global sustainability goals.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks under the supervision of the Chief of the Operational Activities and Review Section. Key responsibilities include: (a) Providing general support for the preparation of the 4th Environmental Performance Review (EPR) of the Republic of Moldova and the Regional EPR of Central Asia, as well as the publication of the 4th EPR of Uzbekistan and the 2nd EPR of Mongolia. (b) Supporting the work of the Transport, Health and Environment Pan-European Programme (THE PEP) by drafting documents, communication materials, and assisting in the preparation and servicing of meetings, including the Bureau of THE PEP Steering Committee. (c) Assisting with the Environmental Monitoring and Assessment Programme, including preparation for the next session of the Working Group on Environmental Monitoring and Assessment, implementation of an EU-funded project, and launching a national state of the environment report. (d) Providing general assistance, which may include drafting and editing documents, conducting background research, and managing correspondence.

Required Qualifications:
To qualify for the United Nations Internship Programme, applicants must meet specific criteria: (a) Be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher), or be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent). (b) Be proficient in standard software applications. (c) Have a background in environmental policy, law" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">environmental law, environmental sciences, international relations, or a related field. (d) Demonstrate a keen interest in the work of the United Nations and a commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter. (e) Exhibit the ability to interact successfully with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds and beliefs, showing tolerance and understanding of differing opinions.

Educational Background:
Candidates must have a relevant educational background, which includes being enrolled in or having completed a graduate program or being in the final year of a Bachelor's degree program. Studies in environmental policy, environmental law, environmental sciences, international relations, or equivalent fields are required. This educational foundation is essential for understanding the complexities of international environmental issues and contributing effectively to the work of the UNECE.

Experience:
No professional work experience is required for participation in the Internship Programme. This internship is designed for students or recent graduates who are looking to gain practical experience in the field of environmental policy and international relations. The focus is on providing an opportunity for learning and development rather than requiring prior work experience.

Languages:
Fluency in English is required for this internship, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. A working knowledge of French or Russian is considered an asset, as it may enhance communication and collaboration within the diverse environment of the UN.
