The Mixed Migration Centre (MMC) is a leading source for independent and high-quality data, research, analysis, and expertise on mixed migration. Established to enhance understanding of mixed migration, the MMC aims to positively influence global and regional migration policies, inform evidence-based protection responses for people on the move, and stimulate forward-thinking in public and policy debates on mixed migration. The MMC's overarching focus is on human rights and protection for all individuals on the move. The MMC operates globally, with regional hubs in Africa, Asia, Europe, and Latin America, hosted in DRC regional offices, and a small central team in Geneva. Job Overview:
The MMC Research Specialist will work under the direct supervision of the MMC Regional Manager for Asia and the Pacific. This role involves supporting all activities of the MMC regional hub, including data collection, research analysis, and drafting research outputs, with a specific focus on regional mixed migration expertise. The Research Specialist will play a crucial role in project management and coordination, ensuring effective communication and collaboration with various stakeholders, including regional MMC hubs and consultants. The position requires a proactive approach to research design, data collection, and the dissemination of findings, contributing to the overall mission of the MMC to enhance understanding and inform policy on mixed migration.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Research Specialist will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including:
  • Project Management and Coordination: Supporting research coordination of MMC projects, liaising with regional hubs, coordinating consultants, and contributing to donor reporting and communications.
  • Research: Assisting in research design, drafting and proofreading MMC resources, consolidating quarterly updates, and collaborating with the Information Management Officer for visualizations.
  • Representation: Actively representing MMC at meetings and conferences, building MMC’s profile with stakeholders, and preparing presentations.
  • Other: Supporting work planning, project reporting, concept note drafting, and facilitating roundtables for dissemination purposes.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree in International Relations, Law, Social Sciences, or a related field. They should have excellent knowledge of contemporary trends in migration, human rights, and international refugee law. Strong communication and organizational skills are essential, along with experience in statistical data analysis tools such as SPSS. The ability to work independently and as part of a team under remote supervision is crucial, as is full professional proficiency in English. Knowledge of another language in the region is considered an asset.

Educational Background:
The position requires an advanced university degree in a relevant field such as International Relations, Law, or Social Sciences. This educational background is essential to ensure that the candidate has the necessary theoretical knowledge and analytical skills to engage with complex issues related to migration and human rights.

Experience:
A minimum of 3 years of experience in research and reporting within the field of migration is required. This experience should demonstrate the candidate's ability to conduct thorough research, analyze data, and produce high-quality reports that inform policy and practice in the migration sector.

Languages:
Full professional proficiency in English is mandatory for this position. Additionally, knowledge of another language spoken in the region is considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's ability to engage with diverse communities and stakeholders.

The contract length for this position is until 31 December 2025, with a band classification of Non-Management G
  • The work location is in Bangkok, Thailand, although if the selected candidate is an expatriate, they will initially be located in the regional office in Tbilisi, Georgia, until their visa for Bangkok is processed. The expected start date for this position is 01 May 202
