Job Overview:
The Marketing and Cooperative Development Officer will play a crucial role in enhancing market linkages and supporting agribusiness growth for smallholder farmers and rural enterprises. This position involves working closely with various market actors, including cooperatives, agribusinesses, and financial institutions, to create inclusive and profitable market systems. The officer will be responsible for developing partnerships, conducting market research, and facilitating business development services to improve the financial sustainability of producer groups and cooperatives. The role also includes capacity building, stakeholder engagement, and monitoring and evaluation of market linkages and business growth.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The officer will be tasked with identifying and establishing sustainable market linkages for smallholder farmers and cooperatives. This includes developing partnerships with buyers, processors, traders, and financial institutions to enhance access to markets and finance. The officer will conduct market research and value chain analysis to identify trends and opportunities, strengthen market systems through networking and trade fairs, and support the development of business models that enhance farmer incomes. Additionally, the officer will assist in product development, branding, and packaging for competitive market positioning, facilitate value addition processes, and provide business development services to improve the operational sustainability of producer groups. The role also involves implementing livelihoods programs, promoting inclusive business models, training stakeholders, and tracking progress through key performance indicators.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in business administration, Agribusiness, Economics, Rural Development, or a related field. They should have 3-5 years of experience in market development, agribusiness, or rural economic development. A strong knowledge of market systems, value chains, and agricultural trade is essential, along with experience in stakeholder engagement and partnership development. Proficiency in business development, financial modeling, and marketing strategies is required, as well as the ability to conduct market research and analyze data. Excellent communication, negotiation, and facilitation skills are also necessary for this role.
Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in relevant fields such as business administration, Agribusiness, Economics, or Rural Development. This educational foundation is critical for understanding the complexities of market systems and agribusiness development.
Experience:
The position requires candidates to have 3-5 years of relevant experience in market development, agribusiness, or rural economic development.
