Job Overview: The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position is part of the global project "Geodata for Development - Supporting the Land Degradation Neutrality Initiative of the Group on Earth Observations (GEO-LDN)". This project operates under the auspices of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and aims to assist stakeholders of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) in utilizing geodata for effective planning, monitoring, and decision-making in sustainable land management. The internship will focus on several key areas, including capacity building, communications, stakeholder engagement, and general project management support. Interns will have the opportunity to contribute to the development of knowledge products and engage in various activities that support the overarching goals of the GEO-LDN initiative.
Duties and Responsibilities: As an intern, you will be tasked with a variety of responsibilities that include: contributing to the creation of knowledge products such as recommendations for the UNCCD and developing factsheets for BMZ and specific countries in collaboration with relevant partners; supporting internal and external communication efforts for the GEO-LDN Secretariat by gathering and organizing content, creating written materials, maintaining the website, and producing newsletters and social media posts (experience with WordPress is advantageous); assisting in the development of a new sitemap for the GEO-LDN website; systematically monitoring social media posts from relevant partners and other GEO initiatives; helping to maintain the customer relationship management (CRM) database; and supporting ad-hoc tasks required for the GEO LDN Flagship. Additionally, you will independently plan, coordinate, and execute a work process defined in collaboration with the team lead.
Required Qualifications: Candidates should be enrolled in their sixth semester or beyond in fields such as Education, Social Science, International Relations, Political Science, Geography, or other relevant disciplines. A strategic mindset is essential for supporting the creation of knowledge products, and a basic understanding of learning theories is considered a plus. Candidates should be open to learning new systems, particularly tools for database and knowledge management. The ideal candidate will be motivated, a team player, and flexible, with an organized, independent, systematic, detail-oriented, and results-driven work style. Creativity and the ability to implement innovative ideas in an agile and productive manner are also important.
Educational Background: The position requires candidates to be currently enrolled as students or to have graduated no more than six months prior to the start of the internship. A background in relevant fields such as Education, Social Science, International Relations, Political Science, Geography, or similar disciplines is preferred, particularly for those in their sixth semester or beyond.
Experience: While specific prior experience is not mandated, candidates should demonstrate a willingness to learn and adapt to new systems and processes. Experience in creating knowledge products or engaging in project management activities would be beneficial, but the primary focus is on the candidate's potential and ability to contribute effectively to the team.
Languages: A very good command of written and spoken English is mandatory for this position. Additionally, having a good feel for languages is advantageous. Knowledge of other languages may be considered a plus, but English proficiency is essential for effective communication within the team and with external stakeholders.
