Job Overview:
The position of Online Volunteer for Translation and Proofreading involves supporting the UNDP's Disaster Risk Reduction and Recovery for Building Resilience Team (DRT) by translating and proofreading materials related to disaster preparedness from English to Spanish. The DRT is responsible for leading UNDP's global practice on disaster risk reduction and recovery, providing essential policy advice and programmatic support to various UNDP offices. The role is crucial in ensuring that the translated materials are concise, coherent, and maintain consistent terminology throughout. Volunteers will collaborate with the Communications Team to enhance the quality of reports and will engage in a learning experience regarding the newly developed learning package and its content. Duties and Responsibilities:
The primary duties and responsibilities of the Online Volunteer include:
  • Translating knowledge and supporting resources from English to Spanish, ensuring clarity and coherence in the text.
  • Proofreading translated materials to maintain high-quality standards and consistency in terminology.
  • Collaborating with the Communications Team to enhance the effectiveness of reports and documents.
  • Providing feedback and suggestions to improve the quality of the translated materials.
  • Engaging with the DRT to understand the context and content of the materials being translated.
  • Completing translations for six modules of the UNDP Preparedness Learning Pathway, which includes extensive word counts for each module and supporting packages.
  • Ensuring that all translations adhere to the deadlines and quality expectations set by UNDP.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess fluency or native proficiency in Spanish, with a strong command of English. They should have excellent writing and editing skills, particularly in the context of translation. Familiarity with disaster risk reduction and recovery concepts is advantageous but not mandatory. Volunteers should demonstrate attention to detail, the ability to work independently, and effective communication skills.
