Job Overview: The position of Consultant for Climate Action Education is part of a technical collaboration process between UNESCO and the Bogotá Education Secretariat. The initiative aims to enhance the teaching of Goal 4.7 of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG4) in Bogotá, focusing on developing active, committed, and responsible citizenship regarding climate change. The project will contribute to the implementation of Decree 1743 of 1994, which institutionalizes environmental education in all schools across the country through the School Environmental Project (PRAE). This role involves creating a hybrid training program for teachers and school principals in Bogotá, aimed at strengthening their teaching skills, producing open educational resources, and enhancing their leadership in developing student-led initiatives at both classroom and institutional levels. The consultant will also participate in coordination meetings with the Bogotá Education Secretariat and UNESCO, and facilitate up to five workshops with key stakeholders identified by the institutions involved.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant will be responsible for the following duties:
Identify and document effective pedagogical practices related to climate action education occurring in public schools in Bogotá, ensuring alignment with curricular guidelines and educational policy priorities.
Develop a hybrid training program for teachers and school principals focused on climate action education, enhancing their teaching capabilities and leadership skills.
Design and implement methodologies for tutoring, observation, research, and action in classrooms with selected teachers participating in the training program.
Create a repository of open educational resources produced by teachers during their training process, which will be shared with their students and made available for pedagogical use by the Bogotá Education Secretariat.
Collaborate with a multimedia design team to develop course materials and resources.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a degree or postgraduate qualification in disciplines related to the themes addressed in the consultancy. They should have proven experience in designing, coordinating, and implementing climate change education initiatives, preferably in Colombia. Additionally, candidates should have experience in initial and continuous teacher training in Colombia, a comprehensive understanding of the Colombian education system, particularly in Bogotá, and excellent interpersonal communication and coordination skills with key stakeholders involved in the initiative.
Educational Background: A degree or postgraduate qualification in relevant fields related to climate change education, environmental education, or pedagogy is required. Advanced studies in these areas are desirable and will be considered an asset.
Experience: Candidates should have substantial experience in the field of climate change education, particularly in designing and implementing educational initiatives. Experience working with multilateral organizations, cooperation agencies, and especially with United Nations agencies is highly valued. Proven experience in multimedia design for educational materials is also beneficial.
Languages: Fluency in written and spoken Spanish is mandatory, along with a very good command of English. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an advantage but is not required.
Additional Notes: The consultancy is expected to last for four months, with a contract duration ranging from 1 to 6 months. The position is open to external candidates, and applicants must be entitled to reside and work in Colombia.
