Job Overview:
The Research Analyst position focuses on providing research analysis and econometric modeling contributions related to climate debt swap programs, economic growth, debt, and sovereign ratings. The individual contractor will play a crucial role in mapping data for key performance indicators (KPIs) of debt swap programs in selected countries, supporting the implementation of monitoring and evaluation activities for the debt swap project. This role is integral to the Debt and Fiscal Policy Team, which is engaged in projects aimed at enhancing public finance in the Arab region. The successful candidate will contribute to the Climate/SDGs Debt Swap–Donor Nexus Initiative, which seeks to unlock resources for member states to invest in projects that align with their national priorities and development plans. The position requires a strong understanding of macroeconomic indicators and the ability to conduct advanced economic modeling to assess the impacts of implemented programs.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The main duties and responsibilities of the Research Analyst include:
  • Contributing to the examination of ongoing research regarding the long-term impacts of debt swap programs on economic and climate achievements in selected countries.
  • Analyzing the interlinkages between climate and environmental indicators, macroeconomic developments, and credit ratings using appropriate economic models.
  • Assisting in the analysis of debt and fiscal policies on growth and fiscal projections utilizing the Macro-Fiscal Modelling and Forecasting (MFMF) tool.
  • Mapping data for Key Performance Indicators, including national sources and innovative data gathering methods such as satellite data and big data mapping for selected countries.
  • Drafting materials for training workshops on macro-fiscal modeling and forecasting, including presentations and background notes.
  • Undertaking ad hoc assignments as requested by the supervisor, demonstrating flexibility and responsiveness to the needs of the team.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master’s degree in economics, public finance, or a related field. A minimum of three years of work experience in research and data analysis focused on public finance and macroeconometric issues is required. Proficiency in statistical analysis software such as Excel, Stata, or R is essential. Additionally, candidates should have at least one year of experience conducting research on economic development issues within the context of the Arab region, which is considered desirable.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Master’s degree in economics, public finance, or a closely related area. All candidates must submit a copy of their educational degree as part of the application process. Experience:

Knowledge of French is also beneficial, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat, but not required.
