Job Overview:
The Data Analytics Intern position is a full-time, unpaid internship located in New York City, specifically within the Digital Enablement Team (DET) of the Department of Peace Operations (DPO). The intern will work closely with a staff member and is expected to contribute to the implementation of the Strategy for Digital Transformation of UN Peacekeeping (DTS). This strategy aims to leverage technology to enhance the safety and security of peacekeepers and improve the implementation of UN mandates. The intern will engage in various analytical tasks, including conducting research, developing surveys, and creating data visualizations to support decision-making processes within the UN Peacekeeping framework. The role requires a commitment to the ideals of the United Nations and an interest in data analytics and digital transformation.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern's responsibilities will include assisting in the analysis of data for reports, policy briefs, and analytical papers. They will engage with partners to discuss data-related objectives and challenges, develop surveys, and generate reports based on outcomes. The intern will also support the identification and documentation of workflows, assist in the development of automated workflows, and create data flows for streamlined access and analysis. Additionally, the intern will help maintain and optimize data pipelines for mission Business Intelligence (BI) platforms, ensuring reliable data delivery for strategic decision-making. The role will also involve assisting in the development of data visualizations and interactive analytic reports.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates for the internship should have a broad range of educational backgrounds, with a preference for those studying computer science, analytics, statistics, information management, business analysis, or related fields. Essential skills include the ability to identify and document workflows, proficiency in data visualization, data cleaning, and data ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes. Applicants must demonstrate a keen interest in the work of the United Nations and possess strong interpersonal skills to interact with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.

Educational Background:
To qualify for the internship, applicants must meet one of the following criteria: be enrolled in a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); be in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's degree or equivalent); or have graduated with a university degree as defined above. Additionally, applicants should be computer literate in standard software applications and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter.

Experience:
While professional work experience is not required for this internship, candidates should have a field of study closely related to the internship's focus. Experience in project or program management, data analytics, digital transformation, or a related area is desirable but not mandatory.

Languages:
Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship, as English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of an additional UN language, such as Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish, is considered an asset.

Additional Notes:
The internship is expected to last between 3 to 6 months and is full-time, requiring interns to work five days a week (35 hours). Interns are expected to be in the office at least three days a week, following UNHQ-NY hybrid working policies.
