Job Overview:
The Geo-Statistics Research Assistant will play a crucial role in supporting the collation of tabular data and assisting in the generation of StoryMaps, which are essential for the Geo-Insights feeding the Atlas of the Arab World. The position involves compiling data to develop datasets and conducting extensive quantitative and qualitative data analysis at various scales and coverage. The individual will work collaboratively within a team environment and report directly to the project coordinator. The role emphasizes hands-on statistical analytical work, comparative spatial analyses, and quality assurance and control, contributing to the overarching goal of promoting the integration of social, economic, and environmental data in the Arab world.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The individual contractor will be responsible for a range of duties including: collating statistical databases and portal applications; locating and identifying regional, national, and subnational data; developing efficient methods for data collection, analysis, and dissemination; documenting the quality, accuracy, and consistency of data; assisting in the development of indicators; producing dashboards, charts, maps, and infographics; and participating in data validation processes. These responsibilities are critical to enhancing statistical data acquisition and dissemination, as well as showcasing user-centric analytical capabilities for future capacity-building activities.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Data Science or a related field. It is essential that all applicants submit a copy of their educational degree, as incomplete applications will not be considered. While no previous work experience is required for this position, candidates should have knowledge of extraction and consolidation of data related to energy statistics. Additionally, familiarity with data extraction, quality control, and evaluating concepts, sources, and methods from open data sources is necessary. Desirable qualifications include knowledge of geo-spatial attributes and metadata records, proficiency in database development, analytical research, and data compilation, as well as strong planning and organizational abilities. The ability to work flexibly and efficiently under pressure to meet tight deadlines is also highly valued.

Educational Background:
A Bachelor’s degree in Data Science or a related area is required for this position. This educational background is crucial as it provides the foundational knowledge and skills necessary for the tasks involved in data analysis, statistical methods, and the use of relevant software tools.

Experience:
For this role, no previous work experience is required. However, candidates should demonstrate a solid understanding of data-related concepts and methodologies, particularly in the context of energy statistics and geo-spatial data analysis. Languages:
Fluency in English and Arabic is required for this position, as these are the working languages of the United Nations and ESCWA. Candidates should be able to communicate effectively in both English and Arabic to fulfill the requirements of the role.

This position is recruited on a local basis, meaning that the incumbent must have the legal right to live and work in Lebanon. The expected duration of the contract is three months.
