Job Overview: The Research Assistant/Data Analyst position at ESCWA is designed for an individual contractor who will be responsible for conducting research and analyses using advanced data analysis techniques. The incumbent will assist the Information and Communication Technology Services (ICTS) team in developing technical materials and tools that leverage machine learning and artificial intelligence. The role requires collaboration with team leads and cluster leaders to ensure that the data collection and analysis processes are efficient and effective. The contractor will be expected to produce high-quality reports, methodological notes, and training materials, while adhering to strict confidentiality protocols regarding the substantive work carried out.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Methodology Identification and Data Compilation: The contractor must demonstrate advanced proficiency in identifying methodologies behind international indices, showcasing expertise in collecting and managing data accurately.
Data Collection, Cleaning, and Analysis: The role involves acquiring data from various sources, ensuring its accuracy through meticulous cleaning and validation processes.
Database Development and IT Collaboration: The contractor will lead the development of databases and data collection systems, optimizing statistical efficiency and collaborating with IT teams.
Understanding of Economic and Machine Learning Models: The candidate should possess a foundational understanding of economic principles and machine learning models to analyze data trends effectively.
Substantive Work and Reporting: The contractor will interpret data, conduct statistical analyses, and prepare comprehensive reports with policy recommendations.
Policy Research and Library Development: The role includes collecting information on policies for Arab countries and preparing a library of policies based on rigorous desk reviews.
Training and Capacity Building: The contractor will design training materials and deliver sessions tailored to member states' needs, demonstrating cultural sensitivity and adaptability.
Additional ad hoc assignments as requested by supervisors.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in International Economics, Finance, Statistics, or a related field. A minimum of 4 years of professional experience in technology-related mini-projects is required, along with experience in developing online platforms and tools for policymaking. Knowledge of international indices development is desirable.

Additional Notes: This position is recruited on a local basis, meaning that the incumbent must have the legal right to live and work in Lebanon. The contract duration is expected to be 6 months.
