Job Overview: The position involves the recruitment of a National Consultant tasked with preparing a Basic Human Rights Information Pocket Guide. This guide is intended to serve as a resource for individuals and organizations seeking to understand and promote human rights in Mozambique. The consultant will be expected to conduct thorough research, engage with stakeholders, and compile relevant information that reflects the current human rights landscape in the country. The assignment is expected to last for 30 working days, during which the consultant will work closely with UNDP to ensure that the guide is comprehensive, accessible, and useful for its intended audience. The consultant will also be responsible for presenting their findings and recommendations to UNDP and other relevant parties.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant will be responsible for the following duties:
Conducting a comprehensive review of existing human rights materials and resources in Mozambique.
Engaging with local stakeholders, including government agencies, civil society organizations, and human rights defenders, to gather insights and information.
Drafting the Basic Human Rights Information Pocket Guide, ensuring that it is user-friendly and informative.
Incorporating feedback from UNDP and stakeholders into the final version of the guide.
Presenting the final guide to UNDP and relevant stakeholders, highlighting key findings and recommendations.
Required Qualifications: The ideal candidate should possess the following qualifications:
A strong understanding of human rights issues, particularly in the context of Mozambique.
Proven experience in research, writing, and developing educational materials related to human rights.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
Ability to work independently and manage time effectively to meet deadlines.
Educational Background: Candidates should have at least a Bachelor’s degree in law, social sciences, human rights, or a related field. A Master’s degree in a relevant discipline would be an advantage. Additional certifications or training in human rights or related areas will also be considered beneficial.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 3-5 years of relevant professional experience in human rights, research, or a related field. Experience working with international organizations, particularly in the context of human rights, is highly desirable. Familiarity with the Mozambican legal and social context will be an asset.
Languages: Fluency in Portuguese is mandatory, as it is the official language of Mozambique. Proficiency in English is also required, as it will facilitate communication with UNDP and other international stakeholders. Knowledge of local languages would be considered an advantage.
Additional Notes: This is a consultancy position for a fixed period of 30 working days. The consultant will be expected to work remotely and may need to travel within Mozambique for stakeholder engagement. The position is open to both national and international candidates. Compensation will be based on the consultant's experience and qualifications, in accordance with UNDP's policies and guidelines.
