Job Overview:
The internship position is designed for individuals interested in gaining practical experience in communications within the Sustainable Demographic Transition Section of the Social Development Division. Interns will engage in various tasks that support the section's efforts in addressing population dynamics, ageing, migration, and youth issues. The role is expected to enhance the intern's understanding of social development while providing valuable contributions to the UN's communication strategies. Interns will work closely with experienced staff members and will have the opportunity to develop skills in content creation, research, and event organization, all of which are crucial for effective communication in a global context.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Interns will be responsible for a range of tasks that may include drafting engaging content for public information materials such as social media posts, website content, news stories, and blogs. They will also create multimedia content, including infographics, presentation slides, event flyers, backdrops, banners, and short-form videos for projects and meetings undertaken by the section. Additionally, interns will conduct research and compile information for reports, assist in organizing and convening events such as commemorations, meetings, seminars, and workshops, and provide photography and video coverage when required. Other duties may be assigned by the Chief of the Section or their designate, allowing interns to gain a comprehensive understanding of the operations within the UN.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). While professional work experience is not required, a field of study closely related to the internship is essential. Relevant studies in social sciences, economics, or other pertinent areas are required. Additionally, the ability to draft news articles and/or social media posts is desirable, and applicants must be computer literate in standard software applications, particularly the Microsoft Office Suite.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this internship includes either enrollment in or completion of a graduate school programme or the final academic year of a first university degree programme. A minimum of a bachelor’s degree or equivalent is necessary, with a focus on fields such as social sciences, economics, or other relevant disciplines that align with the thematic areas of the Sustainable Demographic Transition Section.

Experience:
While no professional work experience is required for this internship, applicants should have relevant academic experience or coursework that aligns with the responsibilities of the position. This could include internships, volunteer work, or academic projects that demonstrate an understanding of social development issues and communication strategies.

Languages:
Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship, as English is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. The internship is unpaid and requires a full-time commitment, with a minimum duration of three months and the possibility of extension up to six months. Interns are expected to work five days a week, totaling 37.5 hours, with a 45-minute lunch break. Interns are responsible for their own travel, visa, accommodation, and living expenses. Those who are not citizens or permanent residents of Thailand may need to obtain the appropriate visa and work authorization.
