Job Overview: The Director of Public Information will lead the Outreach Division, which is responsible for engaging and educating communities worldwide to garner support for the UN's ideals and activities. This role involves formulating strategies and policies, managing outreach programs, and ensuring the timely delivery of outputs. The Director will also build relationships with external partners and oversee the management of the Division's activities, ensuring high-quality standards in all outputs. The position requires a proactive approach to developing innovative programs and fostering teamwork within the Division and across the UN system.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Director will oversee various functions including Education Outreach Programs, NGO Relations, and UN Publications. Responsibilities include directing the development of outreach initiatives, managing budgets, preparing reports for intergovernmental bodies, and ensuring compliance with UN standards. The Director will also be responsible for staff recruitment, performance evaluation, and fostering a collaborative work environment. Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess advanced knowledge in the field of public administration, communications, or related areas. A first-level university degree combined with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree.
Experience: Candidates should have over fifteen years of progressively responsible experience in journalism, strategic communications, or international relations, with at least five years at the international level in a large multicultural institution. Experience in senior management and the development of outreach programs within the UN or similar organizations is required. Extensive experience in building partnerships with various stakeholders is also necessary.
Languages: Fluency in English is required, as it is one of the working languages of the UN. Knowledge of another official UN language is desirable, which may enhance the candidate's qualifications for the position.
