Job Overview:
The Social Media Communications Officer will be responsible for planning, managing, and evaluating social media communications campaigns that effectively promote public understanding of UNOP activities and events. This role involves originating communications products that convey desired messages to targeted audiences, building strategic partnerships, and ensuring effective social media communications. The incumbent will work closely with the Chief of Service for Advocacy and Outreach and other team members to support UNOP initiatives. The position requires a comprehensive understanding of communication strategies, social media trends, and the ability to create engaging content that resonates with diverse audiences.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Social Media Communications Officer include developing and executing a comprehensive communication strategy that aligns with UNOP’s goals, strengthening the online and offline presence of the Office, and ensuring consistency in messaging. The officer will identify communication trends and provide creative content solutions, monitor and analyze current events and public opinion, and advise management on appropriate actions. Responsibilities also include developing high-quality communications materials such as press releases, articles, newsletters, and reports, crafting compelling narratives, and editing written content. The officer will implement a social media strategy, create and schedule engaging posts, monitor social media performance, and produce various information communications products. Additionally, the officer will stay updated on communication trends, design visually appealing materials, support live social media coverage of key events, and coordinate with other UN offices and external stakeholders for cross-promotion.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in communication, journalism, international relations, public administration, or a related field. A first-level university degree combined with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. A minimum of 2 years of progressively responsible experience in communications, journalism, public information, or a related field is required. Experience in producing engaging digital content for diverse audiences and developing multi-platform social media strategies is essential. Familiarity with analyzing social media metrics and audience insights is also desired.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes an advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in relevant fields such as communication, journalism, international relations, or public administration. Alternatively, a first-level university degree may be accepted if accompanied by qualifying experience in the field.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 2 years of progressively responsible experience in communications, journalism, public information, or a related field. Candidates should have experience in producing engaging digital content on complex topics for diverse audiences and in developing and executing multi-platform social media strategies. Experience in analyzing social media metrics and audience insights is also preferred.

Languages:
Fluency in English is required for this position, as English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is considered desirable, enhancing the candidate's ability to communicate effectively within the UN system.
