Job Overview: The Project Assistant will work under the direct supervision of the responsible project officer and the overall guidance of the Chief of Section at ESCAP premises in Bangkok, Thailand. The primary function of this role is to support the preparation of activities and materials related to the project 'Automating the Future: Autonomous Vehicles for Greener and more Inclusive Transport – Policy Implications for Asia and the Pacific.' The Project Assistant will be involved in establishing an Autonomous Vehicles Partnership, conducting regional meetings, and developing knowledge products that address the opportunities and challenges of autonomous vehicles in the context of sustainable transport. This position requires a proactive approach to fostering dialogue among policymakers, industry players, and stakeholders, as well as a commitment to promoting gender analysis and inclusive transport solutions.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Project Assistant include:
Supporting the design and establishment of an Autonomous Vehicles Partnership to facilitate peer-to-peer learning and regional exchanges.
Assisting in the preparation and execution of a regional meeting in a hybrid format.
Developing and disseminating knowledge products on autonomous vehicles, including gender analysis and lessons learned from regional studies.
Maintaining and updating project files and materials, including consultant reports, data sheets, and contact lists.
Collaborating with academic and research institutions, as well as private sector players, to leverage expertise in AV technology and stay informed about developments in the field.
Contributing to the overall objectives of ESCAP in promoting sustainable transport solutions in the Asia-Pacific region.
Required Qualifications: The required qualifications for the Project Assistant position include:
A university degree in economics, business, engineering, international relations, or a related discipline.
Experience in transport-related topics in Asia and the Pacific, particularly in digital transport solutions or low carbon transport.
Demonstrated ability to draft and edit materials on transport and international development issues, preferably within the Asia-Pacific context.
Familiarity with the Sustainable Development Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals and indicators. Desirable qualifications include experience in the UN secretariat or other UN common system entities and familiarity with the UN editorial manual.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess a university degree in a relevant field such as economics, business, engineering, international relations, or a related discipline. This educational background is essential for understanding the complexities of transport systems and policies in the Asia-Pacific region.
