The internship is offered by the Social Development Division of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP). Job Overview:
The internship position is within the Gender Equality and Social Inclusion Section (GESIS) of the Social Development Division. The primary focus of this internship is to support communications work related to gender equality and disability inclusion. Interns will engage in a variety of tasks that contribute to the overall mission of promoting gender equality and social inclusion across ESCAP's work. The internship is designed to provide practical experience in communications, research, and event organization, while also allowing interns to gain insights into the workings of the United Nations and its commitment to social development. Interns will be expected to work full-time for a minimum of three months, with the possibility of extending up to six months, and will be supervised by a staff member in the GESIS section.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Interns will have a range of responsibilities that may vary based on their background and the specific needs of the section. Key duties include:
  • Drafting content for public information materials, which may include social media posts, website content, news stories, and blogs.
  • Producing multimedia materials such as infographics, presentation slides, event flyers, backdrops, banners, and short videos.
  • Coordinating internal communications with ESCAP's gender and disability focal point networks and participating in United Nations system-wide meetings.
  • Conducting research and compiling information for reports and publications.
  • Assisting in organizing events, including commemorations, meetings, seminars, and workshops.
  • Providing photography and video coverage for events as needed.
  • Performing other duties as assigned by the Chief of Section, which may include administrative tasks or additional support for ongoing projects.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following qualifications at the time of application: (a) Be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or (b) Be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent). Relevant fields of study include social science, economics, or other related areas. Additionally, applicants must be computer literate in standard software applications, particularly the Microsoft Office Suite. A demonstrated interest in the work of the United Nations and a commitment to its ideals are essential. Candidates should also possess the ability to interact successfully with individuals from diverse backgrounds and beliefs.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this internship includes enrollment in or completion of a graduate program or the final year of a bachelor's degree program in relevant fields such as social sciences, economics, or similar disciplines. This educational foundation is crucial for understanding the complexities of gender equality and social inclusion issues that the internship will address.

Experience:
No prior working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. However, related practical experience in digital communication tools, including social media platforms, graphic design, and video editing, would be considered an asset. Experience in creating content for digital publishing, such as adapting briefing notes, press releases, and speeches for social media or websites, is also beneficial. Interns should possess strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to translate complex research into accessible language.

Languages:
Fluency in English is required for this internship, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
