Job Overview:
The position involves providing consultancy services for the design of a training program focused on food safety and responsible fishing practices. This program aims to enhance the value addition of artisanal fishing in the localities of Pisco, Marcona, and Atico. The consultant will be expected to develop a comprehensive training curriculum that addresses the specific needs of the local fishing communities, ensuring that the training is practical, culturally relevant, and effective in promoting food safety standards. The consultant will also be responsible for engaging with local stakeholders, including fishermen, community leaders, and relevant government agencies, to ensure the program's success and sustainability. The duration of the service is set for 130 calendar days, during which the consultant will conduct needs assessments, develop training materials, and facilitate training sessions.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Conduct a thorough needs assessment to identify the specific training requirements of the target communities in Pisco, Marcona, and Atico.
  • Develop a detailed training curriculum that incorporates best practices in food safety and responsible fishing.
  • Create training materials, including manuals, presentations, and practical guides tailored to the local context.
  • Facilitate training sessions for local fishermen and community members, ensuring active participation and engagement.
  • Collaborate with local stakeholders to promote the training program and ensure its alignment with community needs.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the training program, making adjustments as necessary based on feedback and outcomes.
  • Prepare and submit reports documenting the training activities, participant feedback, and recommendations for future programs.

Required Qualifications:
  • Proven experience in designing and implementing training programs related to food safety and responsible fishing practices.
  • Strong understanding of the local fishing industry and the challenges faced by artisanal fishermen in Peru.
  • Excellent communication and facilitation skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Experience in conducting needs assessments and evaluations in community settings.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively to meet project deadlines.

Educational Background:
A bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as food science, fisheries management, environmental science, or a related discipline is required. A master's degree or equivalent experience in a related field is preferred, particularly in areas related to sustainable development or community engagement.

Experience:
A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in training, consultancy, or project management related to food safety, fisheries, or community development is required. Experience working with local communities in Peru or similar contexts is highly desirable.

Languages:
Fluency in Spanish is mandatory, as the training will be conducted in Spanish. Proficiency in English is an asset, particularly for documentation and reporting purposes. Knowledge of local dialects may also be beneficial for effective communication with community members.

Additional Notes:
This position is for an individual contractor and is expected to be a full-time engagement over the specified 130-day period. The consultant will be required to submit proposals through the UNDP Quantum supplier portal. The deadline for submitting offers is set for March 18, 2025, at 03:30 PM New York time. The consultant will be compensated according to UNDP's standards for individual contractors, and additional benefits may be provided based on the terms of the contract.
