Job Overview: The position of National Sustainable Local Development Expert is a consultancy role aimed at supporting the UNDP's initiatives in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The expert will be responsible for providing strategic guidance and technical expertise in sustainable local development practices. This role requires a deep understanding of local governance, community engagement, and sustainable development principles. The expert will work closely with local authorities, stakeholders, and communities to develop and implement sustainable development strategies that align with national and international frameworks. The assignment is expected to last from March to July 2025, with a maximum of 30 working days allocated for the completion of the tasks. The expert will be expected to deliver high-quality outputs that contribute to the overall objectives of the UNDP in the region.
Duties and Responsibilities: The National Sustainable Local Development Expert will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including but not limited to: conducting assessments of local development needs and opportunities; facilitating stakeholder consultations and workshops; developing sustainable local development plans in collaboration with local authorities; providing technical assistance and capacity building to local government officials; ensuring alignment of local development initiatives with national policies and international best practices; monitoring and evaluating the implementation of development projects; preparing reports and documentation for UNDP and stakeholders; and contributing to knowledge sharing and dissemination of best practices in sustainable development. The expert will also be expected to engage with various stakeholders, including civil society organizations, private sector actors, and community groups, to foster collaboration and ensure inclusive development processes.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a strong background in sustainable development, local governance, or a related field. A proven track record of working with local authorities and communities on development projects is essential. The ideal candidate should have excellent analytical and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders. Familiarity with UNDP's operational procedures and sustainable development goals will be considered an asset. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate a commitment to promoting gender equality and social inclusion in development processes.
Educational Background: A minimum of a Master's degree in sustainable development, public administration, social sciences, or a related field is required. Candidates with a PhD or equivalent experience in relevant areas will be given preference. Continuous professional development and training in sustainable development practices will be advantageous.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in sustainable development, local governance, or community development. Experience working with international organizations, particularly in the context of UNDP projects, is highly desirable. Candidates should have a demonstrated ability to manage complex projects and work collaboratively in multi-disciplinary teams.
