Job Overview:
The position involves conducting a Health Infrastructure Climate Vulnerability Assessment, which is crucial for understanding how climate change impacts health infrastructure in Malawi. The consultant will be expected to analyze existing health facilities, assess their vulnerabilities to climate-related risks, and provide recommendations for enhancing resilience. This role is vital in ensuring that health systems can withstand climate impacts, thereby safeguarding public health. The consultant will work closely with local stakeholders, including government agencies and health organizations, to gather data and insights necessary for the assessment. The assignment is expected to be completed within 30 working days, and the consultant must be adept at both qualitative and quantitative research methodologies.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Conduct a comprehensive assessment of health infrastructure in Malawi to identify vulnerabilities related to climate change.
  • Engage with local stakeholders, including health officials and community leaders, to gather relevant data and insights.
  • Analyze existing health facilities and their capacity to cope with climate-related risks.
  • Develop a detailed report outlining findings, vulnerabilities, and recommendations for improving resilience in health infrastructure.
  • Present findings to UNDP and relevant stakeholders, facilitating discussions on implementation strategies.
  • Ensure that all work is conducted in accordance with UNDP guidelines and standards.
  • Provide ongoing support and clarification during the assessment process as needed.

Required Qualifications:
  • Proven experience in conducting vulnerability assessments, particularly in the health sector.
  • Strong understanding of climate change impacts on health infrastructure.
  • Excellent analytical and research skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information into actionable recommendations.
  • Familiarity with UNDP processes and standards is an advantage.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively engage with stakeholders and present findings.

Educational Background:
A Master's degree in Public Health, Environmental Science, Climate Change, or a related field is required. Additional certifications in climate resilience or health infrastructure assessment will be considered an asset.

Experience:
A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in conducting assessments related to health infrastructure and climate change. Experience working with international organizations, particularly in developing countries, is highly desirable. Proven track record of delivering high-quality reports and recommendations based on assessments is essential.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory. Knowledge of local languages spoken in Malawi is an advantage, as it will facilitate better communication with local stakeholders.

Additional Notes:
This is an individual consultancy position with a contract duration of 30 working days. The consultant is expected to work remotely but may need to travel within Malawi for stakeholder engagement. The position is part-time, and the consultant will be compensated based on the deliverables outlined in the contract.
