Job Overview: The Communications Analyst plays a crucial role in implementing UNDP’s corporate communications strategy in Montenegro. Under the guidance of the Resident Representative, the incumbent is responsible for designing, managing, and executing communication strategies that promote sustainable development agendas and strengthen public and media outreach. The role involves collaborating with various stakeholders, including UN agencies, civil society, and media, to effectively implement the UNDP Partnership and Communication Plan (PCAP). The Communications Analyst is expected to enhance visibility and engagement through strategic communication efforts, ensuring that UNDP’s initiatives receive the necessary political and financial support. This position requires a proactive approach to communication, utilizing digital platforms and compelling storytelling to highlight development goals and results.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Communications Analyst will support the planning, formulation, and implementation of internal and external communications and advocacy strategies. Key responsibilities include conducting communications needs assessments, analyzing requirements, and synthesizing proposals for the Country Office’s communications strategy. The incumbent will lead the development and dissemination of UNDP campaigns and advocacy initiatives, ensuring visibility through national media and high-profile events. Additional duties include developing communication materials, maintaining an information database, and supporting gender equality mainstreaming in communications. The role also involves overseeing the management of digital media, content creation, and online engagement, as well as facilitating knowledge-sharing and training for UNDP staff on gender-responsive communications. The Communications Analyst will work closely with the Resident Representative and other UNDP personnel to ensure effective communication strategies are implemented.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Master’s Degree in Media Relations, Journalism, Communications, or a related field. Alternatively, a Bachelor’s Degree in these areas combined with two years of relevant experience will be considered. The position requires proficiency in using office software packages and advanced knowledge of spreadsheet and database management. Experience in delivering strategic communications services, drafting content for various media, and managing web-based systems is highly desirable. Candidates should demonstrate strong communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to tailor messages for different audiences. Experience in advocacy campaigns and producing high-quality multimedia content is also beneficial.
Educational Background: A Master’s Degree in Media Relations, Journalism, Communications, or a related field is required. Candidates with a Bachelor’s Degree in these areas must have at least two years of relevant professional experience in public relations, communications, or advocacy at the national or international level. Educational qualifications should reflect a strong foundation in communication principles and practices, with an emphasis on strategic communication and advocacy.
Experience: The ideal candidate should have a minimum of two years of relevant professional experience in public relations, communications, or advocacy, particularly in a development context. Applicants with a Master’s degree are not required to have prior work experience. Experience in strategic communications, media relations, and advocacy campaigns is essential, along with a proven track record of producing high-quality communication materials and managing digital content.
Languages: Fluency in English and Montenegrin is required for this position. Candidates should be able to communicate effectively in both languages, with the ability to draft and edit content for various media platforms. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's ability to engage with diverse audiences.
Additional Notes: The Communications Analyst position is based in the UNDP Montenegro Office in Podgorica.
