Job Overview:
The Communication and Gender Expert will play a crucial role in supporting the development of a multi-country project proposal aimed at enhancing the resilience of livestock systems to climate change in West Africa. This position involves designing a comprehensive communication strategy that effectively promotes the GCF livestock project while ensuring that gender considerations are integrated throughout the project lifecycle. The expert will work closely with a team of specialists to facilitate information dissemination among stakeholders and align project activities with regional communication standards and climate change initiatives. The role requires a strong focus on gender analysis, promoting inclusivity, and ensuring equal participation in project activities. The expert will also be responsible for monitoring and evaluating the impact of project activities on gender equality and women's empowerment, making this position vital for the success of the project.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Communication and Gender Expert will carry out a variety of tasks, including: supporting the identification and formulation of the project in collaboration with FAO country offices and relevant technical officers; conducting a gender analysis to assess the roles and challenges faced by women and men in livestock production; developing a gender strategy to promote gender equality and women's empowerment; integrating gender considerations into project planning and monitoring; preparing detailed reports on gender analysis findings; monitoring the impact of project activities on gender equality; establishing baseline data for gender-responsive indicators; developing a Gender Action Plan; engaging with stakeholders to incorporate their perspectives; promoting the participation of women and marginalized groups; developing tools to monitor gender impacts; creating a comprehensive communications strategy; coordinating messaging across communication platforms; developing a communication plan tailored to project goals; identifying key communication channels; ensuring compliance with GCF branding and ECOWAS guidelines; facilitating effective communication among stakeholders; capturing stakeholder feedback; creating engaging content for various platforms; and contributing to organizing meetings and workshops for proposal validation.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced degree in Communication, Sociology, Public Relations, Journalism, Gender Studies, Development Studies, or a related field. Additionally, a minimum of 5 years of experience in designing and implementing communication strategies, conducting gender analysis, and mainstreaming gender considerations in projects, particularly in the livestock or agricultural sector, is required. Familiarity with climate-related projects is also preferred. Strong writing and storytelling skills, proficiency in digital communication tools, and a solid understanding of communication strategies tailored for climate projects are essential. Candidates should demonstrate excellent communication and facilitation skills, with fluency in both English and French, and possess strong writing and editing skills for diverse audiences.

Educational Background:
The position requires an advanced degree in a relevant field such as Communication, Sociology, Public Relations, Journalism, Gender Studies, Development Studies, or Socio-anthropology. This educational background is essential for understanding the complexities of communication and gender issues within the context of agricultural development and climate change.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least 5 years of professional experience in designing and implementing communication strategies and conducting gender analysis, preferably within the livestock or agricultural sector, rural development, or climate-related projects. This level of experience is crucial for effectively contributing to the project's objectives and ensuring that gender considerations are adequately addressed throughout the project lifecycle.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, and working knowledge of French is also required.
