Job Overview: The International Expert in Agro-Sylvo-Pastoralism will play a crucial role in supporting the design and preparation of a Green Climate Fund (GCF) multi-country project proposal. This position requires the expert to lead the development of technical components related to agro-sylvo-pastoralism and natural resources, ensuring that the project aligns with international standards and the regional priorities of ECOWAS member states. The expert will be responsible for designing innovative and climate-resilient solutions that are tailored to the socio-ecological dynamics of West Africa. This role involves providing technical expertise on sustainable management and governance of land, water, and biodiversity resources, which are essential for the successful development of the GCF project proposal. The expert will collaborate closely with a team of experts and stakeholders to ensure that the project outputs are coordinated effectively and meet the necessary quality standards.
Duties and Responsibilities: The International Expert will carry out a comprehensive set of tasks, including: working closely with the FAO GCF Unit and technical units to ensure quality control and timeliness of project proposals; supporting the identification and formulation of projects in collaboration with FAO country offices and regional technical officers; developing strategies for integrating agro-sylvo-pastoral systems into the GCF project framework; assessing the status of natural resources in the ECOWAS region; analyzing drivers of natural resource degradation; facilitating dialogue with local stakeholders to promote best practices; providing technical support for sustainable land management practices; conducting in-depth analyses of agro-sylvo-pastoral systems; mapping existing governance frameworks; identifying priority interventions for resource management; contributing to the design of nature-based solutions; documenting stakeholder perspectives; developing project concepts; preparing feasibility studies; and organizing meetings and workshops to validate the proposal. The expert will also perform other related duties as required.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a university degree in Agro-Sylvo-Pastoralism, Natural Resources Management, Agriculture, Agronomy with a focus on Environmental Science, Climate Change, Forestry, Agroforestry, or related fields. Additionally, a minimum of 5 years of experience in agro-sylvo-pastoral systems, sustainable resource management, and climate adaptation is required. Full proficiency in French is mandatory, and familiarity with ECOWAS policies and socio-political dynamics is preferred. Strong analytical, facilitation, and report-writing skills are essential, along with excellent communication skills for engaging with diverse stakeholders.
