Job Overview:
The position of Consultant and Personal Services Assignments in Fisheries Assessment and Management is designed to attract global talent to support and lead fisheries projects and technical support processes. The role is crucial for the Fisheries and Aquaculture Division, which aims to promote responsible and sustainable management of aquatic food systems. The assignments may vary in duration from a few days to a maximum of 11 months and may require travel for field missions. The selected candidates will be included in a roster of experts to be identified for relevant short-term assignments. The consultants will work under the supervision of the Team Leader of the Assessment and Management Team and will be involved in various tasks related to the assessment and management of fisheries, considering social, economic, ecological, and institutional dimensions.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the selected Consultant or PSA Subscriber will be defined in the Terms of Reference for each specific assignment. Generally, the responsibilities may include: organizing and participating in field missions and events to support NFIFM’s program of work; preparing training and dissemination materials; developing and delivering training actions; preparing or reviewing technical documents and reports; providing technical support to fisheries organizations; managing data related to fisheries assessment and management; leading or contributing to studies and publications; developing technical tools for fisheries management; supporting the collection and analysis of fisheries data; representing NFIFM in meetings; formulating projects in accordance with FAO’s strategic framework; and managing assigned programs/projects in compliance with FAO rules and donor requirements.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced degree or a first-level degree with two additional years of experience in relevant fields such as economics, biological sciences, oceanography, geography, sociology, or information management. Additionally, candidates should have at least one year of relevant experience for Category C, five years for Category B, or ten years for Category A in fisheries management and assessment or related technical areas. A working knowledge of one official FAO language is also required.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes an advanced degree or a first-level degree in fields relevant to fisheries management, such as economics, biological sciences, oceanography, limnology, geography, sociology, development, communications, information management, or data science. This educational foundation is essential for understanding the complexities of fisheries systems and for providing effective technical support.

Experience:
The level of experience required varies by category: at least one year for Category C, five years for Category B, and ten years for Category A. Relevant experience should be in the field of fisheries management and assessment or in technical areas related to data collection, management, and analysis. Languages:
