Job Overview: The Senior Public Information Officer will play a pivotal role in leading the strategy, planning, development, and implementation of large-scale communications campaigns and initiatives. The incumbent will be responsible for producing content, messaging, and digital assets, organizing events, and coordinating outreach efforts. Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Senior Public Information Officer include leading the development and implementation of communications campaigns, providing expert advice on public affairs issues, developing strategic partnerships, identifying information opportunities for UN Messengers of Peace, preparing diverse communication products, drafting complex materials for UN publications, evaluating the impact of communications activities, representing the UN in meetings and conferences, building information networks, overseeing the maintenance of communication materials, assisting in the day-to-day operations of the unit, coordinating a team of public information staff, and analyzing data to provide insights for decision-making. The officer will also be responsible for mentoring junior officers and ensuring the effective execution of communication strategies.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in public information, journalism, international relations, or a related field. Extensive experience in developing partnerships with the global TV and film industry, as well as the sports sector, is essential. Additionally, candidates should have experience in securing influencers for advocacy, generating communications impact reports, and organizing large-scale public events. The ability to handle sensitive situations diplomatically and cultivate relationships within the creative community is crucial.
Educational Background: An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in communication, journalism, international relations, public administration, or a related field is required. A first-level university degree combined with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree, highlighting the importance of practical experience in this role.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in relevant fields such as public information, journalism, or international relations.
