Job Overview: The consultant will play a crucial role in developing and implementing communication strategies for various projects under the UN-REDD Programme, particularly focusing on climate action and forest protection initiatives in the Asia Pacific region. This position requires a comprehensive understanding of communication strategies tailored to different audiences, including local communities, government bodies, and international stakeholders. The consultant will be responsible for creating engaging content and visibility products that align with project goals and objectives, ensuring effective outreach and advocacy for the initiatives. The role also involves providing technical support for communications campaigns and visibility plans, contributing to the overall success of the projects by enhancing their visibility and impact.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop and implement a communication strategy for the 'Climate Action and Reduction of Emissions for Green Economy' project in Riau Province, including designing a comprehensive strategy, developing content for outreach, and producing visually engaging materials.
Provide technical support for the communications campaign for 'ASEAN Social Forestry,' including preparing a plan for the campaign, coordinating its implementation, and compiling key results messages.
Support the implementation of the 'SAFE Initiative Fundraising and Visibility Plan' by compiling key messages and coordinating project visibility at various events.
Provide technical inputs on communications and visibility for national and regional UN-REDD events, contributing to the implementation of the UN-REDD 2025 country work plans and developing content for events.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess strong advocacy messaging and communications outreach skills, with the ability to produce targeted communications plans and products. Strong communication skills are essential, along with the ability to convey key messages effectively. Candidates should also be able to identify priority activities and have graphic design and video production skills. A demonstrated interest in the work of the United Nations and knowledge of the UN system is desirable.
Educational Background: An advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in communications, international relations, or a related field is required. Alternatively, a first-level university degree in the mentioned fields, combined with an additional two years of qualifying experience, will be considered in lieu of the advanced degree.
Experience: A minimum of five years of experience in roles related to communications, media, and content development is required. Experience working on climate change initiatives is essential, and familiarity with the Asia-Pacific region at the country level is desirable. Candidates should have a proven track record of developing effective communication strategies and materials.
Languages: Fluency in oral and written English is required for this consulting position. Knowledge of French, as one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat, is considered an asset.
