Job Overview:
The consultant position focuses on enhancing the UNEP Knowledge Repository, which is a vital resource for supporting the organization's mission in environmental advocacy and sustainable development. The consultant will be responsible for leading a comprehensive clean-up of the repository to ensure that all entries are complete, accurately described, and consistently tagged with standardized metadata. This role is crucial for optimizing the repository's impact and facilitating efficient access and navigation for users. The consultant will work closely with the Head of Web Platforms and will be involved in various tasks including data cleansing, database management, metadata management, and outreach support. The ultimate goal is to create a well-organized and user-friendly repository that effectively supports UNEP's global environmental advocacy efforts.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant will carry out a range of duties including:
  • Data cleansing, verification, and standardization: Identifying and removing duplicate or outdated entries, contributing to the transfer of documents from obsolete collections to relevant active collections, reviewing descriptive cataloguing and subject analysis, and correcting erroneous author entries.
  • Database management and cataloguing: Uploading newly published UNEP publications and documents, organizing and classifying them appropriately, and providing complete bibliographic descriptions for new additions.
  • Metadata management: Reviewing subject entries, compiling a list of subject terms, ensuring compatibility with international cataloguing standards, and applying consistent metadata across all entries.
  • Outreach and administrative support: Revising Standard Operating Procedures, creating user guidance tools, developing training on SOPs, proposing naming conventions for UNEP files, and supporting documentation and reporting on the project to redevelop the Knowledge Repository.

Required Qualifications:
The position requires a first-level university degree in information systems, library science, knowledge management, or a related discipline. Additionally, a minimum of five years of experience in knowledge management, digital archiving, or content management is required. Candidates should have experience with metadata standards, taxonomy development, and terminology management, along with a solid understanding of these areas. Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to work independently as well as in a team are also essential qualifications for this role.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess a first-level university degree in fields such as information systems, library science, knowledge management, or a related discipline. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of managing knowledge repositories and ensuring compliance with metadata standards and cataloguing practices.

Experience:
The consultant should have a minimum of five years of relevant experience in knowledge management, digital archiving, or content management. Languages:
