Job Overview:
The Research Assistant position is focused on conducting surveys and facilitating discussions with youth and stakeholders in Amman, Jordan. The role involves collecting and analyzing both quantitative and qualitative data related to smart city initiatives, youth participation, and urban governance. The assistant will also be responsible for translating materials into local languages, engaging with community members, and supporting the organization of validation workshops. This position is expected to last for 14 days, during which the assistant will contribute to the preparation of a comprehensive research report that reflects localized knowledge and insights gathered from the fieldwork.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Research Assistant include:
  • Data Collection and Analysis: Conducting surveys and facilitating discussions with youth and stakeholders; gathering quantitative and qualitative data on smart city initiatives, youth participation, and urban governance; assisting in the write-up of findings from fieldwork.
  • Translation: Translating presentation materials and relevant documents into local languages as necessary.
  • Community Engagement: Supporting the facilitation of validation workshops with young people; coordinating with local Youth Advisory Groups; ensuring effective communication between the research team and local partners.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintaining detailed records of research activities; contributing to the preparation of a comprehensive research report.
  • Validation Workshop Organization: Supporting the organization and facilitation of validation workshops for youth; providing logistical support for smooth rollout of activities.
  • Performing any other tasks as required by the research team.

Required Qualifications:
The position requires an advanced degree in urban studies, sociology, public policy, geography, or related fields. Alternatively, current graduate students or researchers in these fields may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. Additionally, two years of previous experience conducting qualitative and quantitative research, particularly in urban studies or human rights, is required. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential, along with excellent organizational skills and the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders. A demonstrated commitment to social justice principles is also required.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess an advanced degree in urban studies, sociology, public policy, geography, or related fields. Current graduate students or researchers in these areas may be considered if they do not yet hold an advanced degree.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of two years of experience in conducting qualitative and quantitative research, particularly in fields related to urban studies, human rights, or similar areas. Experience working with youth or community organizations is also desirable.

Languages:
Fluency in both English and Arabic is required, encompassing both oral and written communication skills. This bilingual proficiency is essential for effective engagement with local stakeholders and for the translation of materials.
